Bottom line is as technical as you can get and as great as you are as a DJ ppl come out for the music not you. When you start hitting superstar status then it will be all about you and Your music. plan accordingly.

dont press so hard and take breaks. once your wrists start to get used to the motion it will become easier.

Sucks but connections mean alot in this industry. You can be the lousiet mixer but if you know how to socilize and have lots of friends that can get you far too.

Haha yea ive seen that at a victoria secret party when me and my gf went for some shopping. i liked some of the song but kinda weird hearing club music in a lingere store…

My first time getting really nervous was when i pluged my outpout wires wrongly into the bars mixer and no sound would come out of their speakers. I freaked out and thought i got the wrong wires… ended up that i plugged my into the booth in and not into a channel (they were really close and looked the same). I was nervous for about an hour and a half after that but then things started going really well once i got into the grove. Now the only time i get nervous is right before i put on a song that everyone is going to go ape shit for… Nerves are just excitement 😉

Another great weekend for lessons learned!

Friday night was house party timez! My good friends gf was having her b-day at her house so naturally I packed up all my stuff and played her some music. there was 15-20 ppl there so nothing much it was still very fun.

Lesson… I read some article Phil wrote and in there he mentioned do not use your own home speakers for gigs. I should have listened. Half way through my time playing they over heated and completly cut out. I couldent get them back up and running that night and i couldent figure out how to hook up her stereo speakers from her home sound system so my gig was ended short… My speakers work fine now but I will not use them for something like this again. I didint realize how much stress they go through.

Saturday I was still feeling tired for the other night but i took it like a trooper at my residency. It was Nuit Blanch in T.O. so we were expecting barely any ppl. I played really chill tribal and house until my boss came up and said he wanted vocals and ‘songs’. Ofcourse i switched it up right away but hearing a comment like that made me realize one importaint thing.

Lesson… As a DJ you are hired by someone who expects something. They have their own expectations on what they want and what sound they expect. I am hired to play top 40 and dance music. I have some choice and can put in alot of the stuff that i like but playing it for as long as i did that night was my mistake on my part, also i think being tired had something to do with it. So I asked for a redbull and brought up the energy then killed it since more ppl came in at it wasent as bad as we thought it was going to be. Ppl were dancing and i was having a killer time. Thing is unless you have a crazy good name for yourself or a crowd that follows you with commitment you MUST satisfy the ppl who hire you and you dont have a choice. I am lucky that i am allowed to play pretty much w/e i want but i must be smart and realistic about it. the night ended well and he was happy.

This week i will be focusing on getting regge music and more veriety of rap artists. I will also start working on a great one hour long mix that il use to set up a mix tape. Also there is sractching to learn and i must start learning ableton. times are getting busy but if i am to make it the way i want to make it… they next few years will be the bussiest of my entire life and i must make each second count. Nothing is more importaint then your lifes dream.

Ive just recent started playing around and understanding NS6 effects. I really like what you can do with them but use sparringly. They are for flare and to add on, not to play out with the entire song…

I keep the volume pretty low as the the night starts but by middle of the night when its packed i have it at max value in which wont break the speakers. Then I always bust out some banger to let ppl know its time to dance. The cool thing about gangnam style right now is that its a big fad and a silly song. All the guys know it and some girls too. ppl usually get into a happy jokes mood and they are ready to start dancing after i play that song. Everyone knows the gangnam style dance 😉

    Gangnam Style by Psy ;D

I have a set of songs set up that have really good energy and that usually gets everyone pumping. Otherwise I play something that everyone knows for a bit then switch it up to something else later on.

    Double take wwwweeeeeekkkkkeeeeennnnddd!

I played out both friday and saturday nights this weekend. My dj friend had a wedding to go to and so I enjoyed covering for him. major lesson from friday night is to not get your gf drunk while you are playing… Not only does she get annoying but you have to take care of her and carry all your stuff at the end of the night. I had a serious talk with her and hopefully this will not happen again.

Saturday I finally joined up with Zipdj.com for 3 months. I spend the rest of the day getting some well needed hiphop and RmB. Until now I didint have any because I’m not a big fan, but when I actually started to listen to some of the better stuff it stuck to me. I really like Young, Wild and Free by Wizkid. I played all this stuff during the night and ppl were loving it and more importaintly for this sat is that the servers liked it too. They were listening to the same music for the past weekends because I hadent switched it up much. Now that I had some new stuff they are very happy with me and it showed in their sales. They sold as much Alchahol as they would on Saint patricks day… that saying something! I am definately doing something right :)!

This sunday I spent recovering and seaching for more Hip Hop and RmB. I also got some killer house and electro tracks. My main goal this week is to add many new songs and have them all sorted and ready by next sat. I will also continue with learning to scratch and use effects.

    Keep the good music rolling!

P.S. If anyone has any recomendation on Hip Hop please let me know I am soooo down for some advice!
