MemberThe Denon mixers do look good. The problem I have is that I cant afford the outlay on a brand new mixer at the moment, which is why I was going to go for external soundcard. One big thing that attracts me to the NI card is the free Traktor Pro 2 (if I buy in the next day — offer runs out on 31st). If I buy the mixer later and make my soundcard obsolete, then at least I got a free software out of it.

MemberIt’s a great controller that I have tested out before, but I kind of decided against an all in one controller. I’ve been mixing and collecting dance music for over 15 years and I have Passion for the feel of a high end mixer (my dream mixer was a always vestax installation mixer with rotary faders, although I never managed to get one) and I’ve yet to use a complete controller that comes close the feel and sound quality of using a class mixer apart from the Allen and heath ones.
The other thing that puts off is that I have literally never seen a club dj useing a all in one controller. They always have 2 x1’s and use the club mixer.

Amen to that… I have had a single pair of HD25’s for nearly 12 years, just replaced the earpads and they look brand new and have always sounded brand new. The best music-based investment I have ever made. Sennheiser all day long! So functional/minimal & sound amazing.

I went to the Numark design forum seminar at BPM a few weeks ago, and I asked/suggested to the product development manager that they should make a single deck version of say the NS6 jog section, and his reaction seemed quite positive in that I kind of got the impression that this may already be in the pipeline. Only thing is that the NS6 is very much geared towards itch.

That maybe true. They will try and hang on to the CDJ market for as long as possible, but Im not sure they need to worry to be honest as I think alot of people will still stick to CDJ’s for quite a long time, especially as there is uncertainty surrounding what gear people should buy and what direction the market is going in. Clubs certainly aren’t gonna start throwing their CDJ’s out the booth.

I would think it meets your spec rather good…..
Yeah, I reckon this is the closest we have to a great single deck ‘jogwheel’ controller. I have tested it out, and its cool. I feel like its a bit cramped/small though (which does have it advanteges in some situations), and also I know its a fine point but alot of the other controllers have dials to change loop length, but the SC2000 has buttons which work ok, but that makes it harder to create cool loop adjustment effects really quickly. I also think that the effect section is good but not quite as intuitive as say the X1. Mind you, I had limited time to mess around with it so maybe I was missing a trick with these things I mention.
I can def see the value for the denons, and I may end up buying some. Maybe I’m just being too picky though… I’m just surprised that so far Pioneer hasn’t attempted a medium sized single deck controller that appeals to club DJ’s that are used to using CDJ’s, seeing as it nailed CDJ’s with the ‘single deck’ CDJ 500’s back in the day. I guess they seem focused on all in one controllers at the minute, which Im not knocking, but they don’t fit into everyone’s idea of the ideal set-up.
I think I’m wondering if its possible for one company to create a club standard controller product, that is adopted industry wide?
