ParticipantAppreciate your help guys.
I’m from Japan and I know that we’re generally difficult people to please, and sure maybe I’m too gear centric so people won’t take me seriously, but that’s fine for me because my goal for summer 2015 is to be able to play at a few mid-size bars/clubs that I have affiliations with. I know that they all use CDJ’s with Rekordbox which is the main reason why I’m keen on being prepared to use it. If I get any gigs beyond that, hurray! but if not, that’s totally okay. One step at a time right?
DJ Vintage> I don’t think I ever said I can or would carry any equipment abroad. I checked out Mixvibes Cross and it sounds awesome. Do they follow through on their promises? I’m really shocked that Pioneer would release a incomplete and buggy product like the aforementioned controllers.

ParticipantThanks Terry_42. I’d be lucky if I can get a few gigs DJing and I need the luggage space for hauling stuff around for my real job, so no I probably won’t be carrying a controller to Japan. But I get your other point about “practicing” rekordbox is not absolutely necessary which in that case, something like a Stanton SCS 4DJ would save me lots of money entering the DJing business. BUT, I still feel there are advantages to having my music organized in Rekordbox and getting used to it. Is it worth paying the premium of Pioneer gear though? This part I’m not sure.
The XDJ-Aero and XDJ-R1 both look appealing on paper but I’ve been reading that they have their issues such as compatibility and limitation of hardware/software. I opened up Rekordbox on my mac and immediately noticed that there were two different formats 1. CDJ/AERO/XDJ-100 2. XDJ-R1 3. MEP-4000. Does this mean that if I buy the R1 and organize all my music for it, I wouldn’t be able to just export what I need for a gig and use it on a CDJ? Couldn’t find any info on that.
Also, I’ve read that the XDJ-R1 has had A LOT of software/hardware issues outlined in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAQHukiiM04 One that I don’t get is that cue points set in Rekordbox don’t transfer to the XDJ-R1? (WTF)
And it sounds like the Aero can’t set hot cue points either, plus no wave form of tracks and a super small screen making it difficult to look for tracks sounds pretty bad.
Does anyone know if these issues were resolved through firmware updates? and if not, what other controllers would you guys recommend?

ParticipantI see. I’ll download Rekordbox on my computer to see what it’s like first like you suggest.

ParticipantThanks for your advice! I’ll definitely check out the tutorial.
The thing is, I can’t bring my controller to Japan anyways so I’d rather use Rekordbox. So for me, I think I’m just looking for a controller that will allow me to practice using Rekordbox as well experience DJing on CDJ’s or something very similar to it. I’m assuming that those two controllers by Pioneer are similar to djing on cdj’s….
Anybody know if they are??
Thanks
