MemberOne of the weirdest and best places was in the high deserts just outside of Mammoth Mtn in California with snow still around we set up decks with a gen by the natural hotsprings and bonfired with sweet music till the sun came up, I had the sunrise set, then everyone warmed up in the hotsprings. (They really were natural, from streams, cut out from the earth). Awesome night and setting

MemberOne of my favourite techniques to use is the early introduction, whether it be a short vocal sample or a couple of echoed one shot cues, I like to introduce the track im bringing in fairly early but not drop in til a lot later, sometimes ill even drop in a longer extended vocal and take it away for a couple of minutes and bring it back in at a smoother outro from the first track. Leaves people excited for whats to come when they recognize what it may be.
Another little trick i like to do includes three tracks, Track one is coming to its final drop, Ill mash in track 3 which is a very recognizable older tune with just the mids and a bit of high and then when the time comes blend in track 2. When track 1 is gone, Track 2 is developing with Track 3 still playing over it building until Track 2 drops and completely takes over. This allows for interesting and seemless transitions to counter long intro and outros..
Other than that, I completely agree with D-Jam, I do like to quick mix on occasion, but I know my tracks in and out before so it doesnt interfere with vocals or hooks when I do so. I literally have 8-10 cue points on every track so I know where the good spots are.

MemberOne of my bigger gigs opening for a special guest could have gone horribly wrong. I was using my new S4 and about an hour in after a good opening, it started to sputter, literally like it was running out of gas, I was freaking out, the new dj was due in half an hour as he was performing for a private party. I had my ipod handy, so I quickly chuck that into the spare channel and away I go with my recent mix I had recorded. It fit the mood and I have to admit I was going all SHM up there fiddling with the knobs trying to make it look like I was mixing. Anyway, I had my backup RMX, so as the booth was up high, in a lull I swapped the S4 for the RMX and tried to mix back in.
Then, the new DJ comes and he brings his turntables with him, so of course this is a small booth which is a ski gondola originally, fits only two people at best. In order to set his stuff up, I had to unplug all of my stuff. So what do I do.. oh shit thats right, I have an ipod already hooked up, the management hopefully had no clue I had screwed up before and used the ipod for 15 mins, so I came up with the brilliant idea of using it now. At this moment, with the switch going on, I hid in the back of the booth just doing the vol up and down to mix in the new track as its an old ipod. It might have sounded alright, but damnit I was embarrassed and happy to get away once the new DJ took over. Turned out as I was leaving everyone I passed had good things to say, but it just shows to be prepared for anything..
I felt like a waiter up there going into the kitchen and swearing blindly and then coming back through the doors and smiling to the crowd like everything is peachy keen.

I have gone through and liked all the newer people that have added their facebook links since I was on last, so I wanted to make sure people arent just leaving their links and not following up. Im not about to ‘unlike’ anyone who doesnt click on my page, Im happy to support freely, just want to make sure that the reason we joined this thread is followed.
For those who wrote and havent posted their facebook pages to click on, please repost with the links so we can add ya.

MemberHey Gilman, last year I started a blog called the Daily Remix Blog designed for that exact purpose to find good remix to already strong songs from different genres. After starting a job a month ago I have taken a break from it as writing 500+ words a day got a little too much, ill take it up again soon, but it has a good backlog of tracks you might like from different EDM genres.
