ParticipantAnd thats the beauty of it. You just check the box, iTunes can sort your entire collection by artist, then you just set Traktor to read from the overall iTunes Media File, and presto, whenever you load traktor, new songs add to the collection, plus all your crates as well

ParticipantAs far as i know, the trend seems to be to check the “Copy files to iTunes Media Folder” checkbox in preferences. As soon as you play a song, it gets stashed in that folder. I get songs, run them through Mixed In Key, play in iTunes to save them to my main library, and when I open Traktor, it adds any new songs from the iTunes media folder to the track collection, easy as that

Meaning I could actually use the matrix input on the Denon mixer and have up to 6 channels available … Not gonna use that, but it is a great backup that way.
Greetinx,
C.Yeah, you don’t have to worry about getting sound out, that’s for sure lol

ParticipantMy view (which basically summarizes what is here)
Factors
Distance – Is is the guy next door, or does he live 40 minutes away? If so, then definitely charge for gas
Set up – Some guys, like Nietzsky, have lots of equipment to cart (which, by the way, reduces gas mileage) so consider that. When i do a house party, I prefer lightweight Also, I dislike others helping me setup, mainly because if something isnt’ set up right, I can only blame myself for it.
Drinks – If this if for a friend, there are 3 ways this pans out
1) Free everything – You definitely get free drinks
2) BYOB – You should still (if you drink) get free drinks
3) Charge at the door – You get free drinksBasically, if there are drinks in the house, you should not pay for drinks. Ever been to a dry party? Kinda boring, but a good DJ can make it interesting. Ever been to a party without music? See how long that night lasts. Now, that doesn’t mean get trashed. Know your limits. And free drinks are for you. Maybe, MAYBE a girlfriend, but not the 8 people you brought with you
Cover – If he / she charges for the event, YOU charge for the event, either set rate or percentage. Go with whichever is going to benefit you more (usually a set price for small parties, but if its a “200 person plus line outside” kind of thing, percentage BEFORE expenses is best (Because they will tell you they didn’t make a profit after buying alcohol, etc). Probably true, but not your problem.
And as Nietzsky and Domicile said, for something like a wedding, you charge, but with a discount of some kind. Personally, I know a guy I met when we were still in diapers, we grew up like brothers, I even lived with his family through high school. If he were getting married, I would do it for free. But unless you know someone like that, definitely charge

Mainly, the cost differential between products with / without. Paying for college is somewhat of a drain as you can imagine, so until I can start bringing in a regular (like 1-2 “I know to be here at this time on this day” gigs a week), I try to be as creative as possible with the best I can afford.
Also, I would prefer a standalone for its flexibility, and in case of “buy the gear with soundcard, don’t like how it works, so now have to get different gear and soundcard” as opposed to “find controller I like, if it has soundcard, then great, external can act as backup, if not, still good”

My hope is to buy a Z2 one day, as it basically checks every box for what I need in a mixer

Just a errant though I had. I’ve never broadcasted from Traktor, so I don’t know if it also streams metadata, but if it did, then maybe by broadcasting your set live, then opening the stream on an iPad or something as you suggested, would work

ParticipantNo prob, anytime
Alex Wray
ParticipantDo you broadcast your shows directly from Traktor?

ParticipantIs the iPhone 4S still a good phone even though the iPhone 5 is out? Yes.
MAjor artists have rocked the biggest clubs with Ableton 8, so yes, its still good software
Alex Wray
ParticipantSo definitely an Audio 8 or 10 then?
Also, does that make the mixer controls in Traktor useless? Because I was planning on using a midi controller as my mixer and basically the running the final master sound through the house mixer

ParticipantYou could grab a cheap flatscreen monitor at the thrift shop, write “Now Playing” and bring it to shows wit you as a mirror monitor and point it towards the entrance to the booth

ParticipantFound this on NI Forums
Maschine – output to out 1/2, which i have plugged to my in1/2
Traktor – set Deck D to live input, getting source from in1/2Traktor decks A/B/C are set to out 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8 respectively.
With traktor sending the midi sync signal (using midi loopback device), and maschine set to external sync i find i can sync it all up quite easily.
This lets me add synched traktor effects to the incoming maschine signal, and since maschine as an interface is predominantly handled by the external hardware, it doesn’t matter at all not being able to see its program window.
(I would probably run deck Maschine through 7/8 so as to keep A 1/2, b 3/4, etc)
Alex Wray
ParticipantJust to be clear, you don’t want to MIDI sync Maschine to Traktor, you want to run Maschine through a Deck of Traktor (like a CDJ or turntable) and use Traktor’s FX and mixer controls on the Maschine audio signal before it leaves your computer and enters the speakers?

ParticipantIt’s kind of a hard question to answer, but i’ll try. First, with either software you choose, you will probably add sounds to it anyway, so judging by the stock selection is kind of a moot point. Also, how do you see yourself using the software? Are you hoping to perform live with it, or will it remain strictly in the studio? Another point is using the software with the mouse and keyboard. Whether you perform live with it, or keep it strictly for production, you will probably want to add a tactile interface to it eventually. Working with either one of those programs with a mouse & keyboard alone is kinda like owning a Ferarri with a Civic engine in it (sorry about the crappy metaphor). The point being, it looks nice, but you can’t unleash its full potential without the hardware to really make it go.
