ParticipantOh AND he’s FRENCH, dude. FRENCH… that’s something I could never be. It’s literally impossible.
Albin0Panda
ParticipantBasically what I was saying is that he’s above us. Nothing we can do about it. Just use your dislike of him (or Mr. Bieber) to be the best you can be. I mean shit, guetta put in like 20 years of work in before he got to where he is now. I’m just sick of people hating when it really does nothing. :/

Participantdave, thank you. At least you of all people understand me. That’s good. :]
everyone else can go cry in the corner of their room and curl into a little ball because I said some ever-so-hurtful and dreadful things on the intertnet :*[
Random: Lockon Stratos… you’re name is awesome. I doubt anyone here knows what that’s from. Nerding out. :]

Participantdamn, shows are hard… and expensive. I mean if you got the means to do it than go for it but theatrics can be difficult to set up… unless you’re just a nut, then people will want you because you’re a party animal. However, you DO want to be a DJ above all other things, right?

Participantaww man. too late. I wear funny skirts on the daily…-____- wish you told me that sooner.

Albin0Panda, get this to your head:
If you need to add “not being a dick” to whatever it is you are blathering on about, then odds are quite likely you are being a giant dick. Your comment was rude and completely out of line.
Dave had a perfectly valid question – he wanted to know what is working for people with regards to their marketing materials and how they are positioning themselves. He didn’t say he didn’t think music mattered, or any of the other bs you ranted on about.
The whole purpose of this forum is to share what is working and what isn’t so that those with more experience can help out those with less. Your attitude brings nothing to the discussion. Get over yourself.
Aight dude, listen up.
The point I was trying to make is that you shouldn’t worry about your image. If someone shuts you down just because of your image or marketing approach it shouldn’t discourage you. If you all took that as insanely rude, then you are some weak-minded peeps. You and the people around you don’t get anywhere by telling people what they want to hear. You want me to be polite? I could easily tell him “hey, just keep at it, ol’ chap! Don’t be like everyone else.” but I don’t because, even though I don’t know him, MAYBE I want him to do get somewhere being the DJ/future producer(maybe) he is. I didn’t directly tell him to quit. I just laid out the choices… although, quitting completely would be ridiculous.
And Dave, if you’re reading this, FUCK anyone who doesn’t take you for who you are. Serious. Do your thing like everyone else says, and I think you’d be way better off. Just my opinion. Let’s think of it THIS way since everyone is being prissy little girls about it: Say the “cool” guy gets the booking… and sucks shiiiieeet. Then you get a booking somewhere else, and you kill. Try again, and maybe it’ll be different the next time. Like I said before, if you got the skill, then you got more opportunities than the wanna-be “cool” guy.
Shitty part is the initial booking though. If you got the “In’s” then it’s a lot easier to get your name out. If you have no connects, then you just gotta keep plugging.

ParticipantUmmm… beat rolls for sick drops. Like D-jizzle said, beat/rhythm/phrasematching is the main bunch of it.
Albin0Panda
ParticipantDavid Guetta makes more money than you. He’s top DJ. He’s French. Admit it. He beat us all. Shut up and do work all of you.
Albin0Panda
ParticipantMaybe they know how to use beat counts to introduce a different tempo song.
or, ha, better yet…
Maybe they don’t give a shit about beatmatching because it’s not the LAW to beatmatch. If something sounds like it’s going to be the shit together, then why not mix it? Most people are too narrow minded to think of such things. They don’t have soul/swag/the groove. I think you forgot that being able to perform means that you have to be able to read an audience.February 7, 2012 at 6:10 am in reply to: How Seriously Do You Have To Take Your Image To Succeed? #14374Albin0Panda
ParticipantGet this to your head:
As a DJ, you can sugarcoat the f*** out of your bio, you can be the prettiest/hardest/coolest little boy in the entire universe, but if you suck as a DJ, and you’re trying to be a DJ, you are going NOWHERE. I hope, for the sake of humanity, that 90% of the people who respond to this thread will tell you that it’s your ability that will get you there.
If you’re worried about your image, then quit bro. On the real. Not being a dick, but you just aren’t at the right place in your head to succeed. Unless you have the drive, passion, and tenacity, you should quit or be content with where you are now, and maybe even forever.

ParticipantMy current DJ software is Serato Itch. Why? Because it works perfectly with my Novation Twitch. It lets me be as creative as I like without having to get insanely tech with my mappings. I don’t have much professional playing experience, but I must say, the twitch is going to start a revolution, imo.
