Pyramid Lake, NV on an Indian Reservation. It was basically Burning Man lite, but way less intense/epic than Burning Man, but just as much fun.
My CDJs haven’t gotten here yet, the NATO protests in Chicago have all the shipping out of there delayed.

I will absolutely miss the screen, but I’ve decided to get really serious with my djing, and I want to stop djing with my eyes, and start fully djing with my ears.
I’m taking time off from the screen so I can’t cheat myself by using it. Maybe 6-12 months from now when I feel I’ve got it, I’ll use the screen again, and all the features the software adds to your performance/experience.
So I guess you can say I’m not leaving digital djing, just taking a hiatus so I can fill the gaps in my skills, then I’ll be back.

ParticipantWhy wouldn’t you learn how to manually beatmatch? Once I started to manually beatmatch my tracks djing became so much more fun, and felt so much more involved. So I would say the absolute #1 reason to manually beatmatch is to enjoy the experience more.

ParticipantI like it!

Participant1) – One thing that can keep you motivated is to have other friends that are DJs. A few of us try to get together once a week and take turns practicing while the rest of us just hang out.
2) – I also live in a smallish (1000 sq ft) 1 bedroom appartment, and the dj booth is right in the middle of the living room/kitchen so it’s just always there setup calling my name out to practice. When my g/f watches her chick shows, I throw on my headphones and practice.
3) – Downloading new tracks is always a huge motivator for me.
4) – Having an upcoming gig, this is probably the best motivator to practice!

ParticipantHere is a good tip for finding more time to look for music/practice.
Two years ago when I moved back to NYC I decided to not get cable, and almost giveup TV completely. Now instead of watching TV I crate dig, or spin practice sets.
Very few times have I sat down and watched 2 hours of TV and been glad I had done so.

ParticipantI took a one night class on vinyl at Dubspot in NYC to try out vinyl and to check out the school because I plan on going there for music production. It’s a great school but is very expensive and the schedule conflicts with work and the gym so I make take their online courses despite only being a few subway stops away.

Unfortunately, in Spanish speaking countries, the car’s name literally meant ‘No-Go’, which damaged the branding.
That’s why companies such as Toyota try to make up words (one reason is it’s easier to copyright a word that didn’t exist before, and the other is you never need to worry about the translation).
That’s an urban legend, it never actually happened.

This should remind me to backup to my time capsule more regularly.
To be honest I’ve just kinda blindly utilized this feature and wasn’t sure what it was capable of. So If I sync weekly, worst case scenario I could buy a new MBP, connect that hard drive and reopen up the same computer? There is ‘Time Machine’ which is the part of Max OS X that handles backups, then there is the ‘Time Capsule’ which is a piece of hardware that works with ‘Time Machine’ to do incremental backups (this means it just backs up what has changed not everything every time) OVER WIFI EVERY HOUR to a hard drive in the ‘Time Capsule’.
If you have the $300 to spend on the Time Capsule then you should do it, that way you don’t even have to think about doing backups, it just happens!!!

ParticipantThis is what we use for our events. We buy the one we like for the event, then have a graphic artist customize it.

ParticipantI move all the songs I download from Beatport into one folder, then select all the new tracks and drag them into itunes (or you could ctrl click and choose open with itunes). Then if you reopen traktor or select refresh on the itunes icon in traktor the new songs will be available.

ParticipantMy intuition says that the larger the jog wheel, the more accurate your initial drop for beat matching will be. Do you really not think it does?
