Great points all around! All of which are key elements in being successful in the mix. As Vintage mentioned, hearing is vital, but so is practice, as deathy said. I mean, anyone can quickly learn to put 2 beats together, but it’s things like; knowing your music, timing, levels, tone, length of transition…and so on…all of which go into making a successful blend of music and are learned over time with practice.

I personally have not focused heavily on harmonic mixing. However, I will agree with vintage, it is a tool and can be a great one that when applied correctly will certainly aid in ensuring a smooth transitions between 2 pieces of music.

One final point – Although practice helps in bettering ones skills, try to do it in moderation. You want to avoid frustration and disappointment by practicing excessively!

    Cheers!

My apologies, you are correct, it’s not close at all, it closed at 1.41 today. I guess that’s not dramatic at all. Let’s see….the dollar is sitting at the lowest its been in like 11yrs…nooooo…not dramatic at all. Anyhow, enough of that….Yes, I’m quite familiar with both Erikson and SFM marketing all wanting to get a piece of the pie.

Manufacturers run products through distributor’s because it’s easier and cheaper for them to maintain products abroad. Doing so helps maintain cash flow and operating capital to meet bottom line requirements by their shareholders.

Simply, I was just stating fact that product is expensive when I made the original post, and when you take a look at the entire dj community, the majority being beginners starting out, this stuff can be quite pricey.

From my experience in the clubs it all depends on how much control the individual has, along with level of tolerance. I would think that for most, having a drink or 2 during a set would probably be ok. It is drinking to excess that is not, and I have seen far too many do the old “just one more, that’s it” and it never worked out well.

So, like I said, I certainly think its about control.

For me, it would be coffee that would be the drink of choice.

Never too old to get back in the scene…1968 here. Music doesn’t judge or have an age limit…it just likes to be heard by anyone willing to play it….so enjoy yourself and never second guess.

However, you know you’ve been spinning discs a while when ya take the headphones off and hair is falling on the vinyl…lol. I blame my headphones for my bald spot, not age….wink wink.

Actually, my tech 12’s are 30 yrs old and still in excellent condition!

I’m hobbiest and just enjoy mixing traxx and coming up with new mix idea’s.

It’s a way for me to have fun and relax.

    Hello Lohit

Welcome! You certainly have come to the right place. I think you will find/meet many knowledgeable people here of whom I’m confident can assist you with many of your questions.

Pssst! I too am new here and have been dj-ing since 1986 and I still have a great big bag of questions to ask, so as Dj Vintage said above, share some details about yourself and peruse the various forums to ask/post your questions and enjoy your time spent here.

One additonal mixer I did own but did not mention above was the Xone 92 linear model. Didn’t like it at all. The faders were way too loose, and there were designs issues that bothered me so I sold it right quick.

I’ve used all kinds of mixers over the years. For the last 15 years I have only bought into higher end mixers. The best 4 channel mixer I have ever used is the XONE62 by Allen & Heath. Mine was an original built in the U.K. Not overly fancy with effects, but superb sound quality and workmanship. I have also owned the DB2, DB4 and jumping over to Pioneer, the DJM 2000 NEXUS all of which were brand new purchases. This was the only way I could test and get a feel for what I truly wanted. Also, I find as ya get older the more picky and critical ya become.

I’ll be honest with ya, the build quality of Pioneer is OK at best. Nothing compared to A & H. I now have a DENON DNX1700, again a superb quality build. For me, quality ranks over “bells and whistles”. The bottom line is, you need to figure out budget, timeline and scenarios in which you plan on using the mixer, and then research the brand and model that best fits your needs and budget. If you have the option of visiting a reputable re-seller of dj gear, check out what brands they offer and see if you can test drive a few to get a feel for them to help narrow down what you want.

I would truly suggest getting a 12″ 4 channel mixer. This will allow you capabilities to expand on with additional gear/channel use should you desire to do so at a later point in time. Try looking at the A & H xone 43 or 43c as well as the denon dnx 1600. You won’t go wrong with either of these units. However, if you truly want pioneer, then go for a 750 or 850.

If you want an all in one controller unit, I will have to stop here because I have never used one and nor do I want one. Therefore, I can not offer any opinion other than they are flashy and neat looking.

    Good luck in your search…CHEERS!
