Greetings Sean – agree, this is a pretty friendly place to hang. These are just my observations, would like to hear input from the experts (like Terry_42, who seems to play with controllers for a living 🙂 ). Had a chance to fool around with an S!, seems solidly built, easy to use, has that good feel associated with Pioneer. However, it is dated and you could say it’s been superseded by the SX. S1 was designed for Serato Itch (since discontinued), SX for Serato DJ (whereas, even on Pioneer’s site, the S1 is listed as “now compatible with Serato DJ”. Most say the SX is better in every way for not much more money. However, it really depends on what you want – S1 is more portable, said to be easier to use, and with the recent price drops much more affordable.

Other than price, really can’t do wrong with Pioneer.

BTW – you’ve probably seen it, but this site has a really good controller guide:

Thanks Steve. I did not realise the S1 was old so thanks for the heads up.
I can’t stretch to an SX unfortunately 🙁 I was originally just looking at an Ergo-K but then got carried away haha
One of the things that i liked about the S1 was the level meters, Pioneer have been a bit shy with them on their controllers.
Think i might start with he Ergo and see how i get on with that and then maybe upgrade to an SX later.

I would recommend you look at the Terminal Mix Series from Reloop in that price range and get the bundle with Serato DJ.

Well, it seems to be a no-brainer between the Ergo and Reloop.
    Reloop it is then 🙂

    Good choice.

And yes there are other things I play with 😉
Sadly all the controllers I fiddle with are not mine, but I have a store near me and they let me fiddle with new controllers as it tends to attract a few people into the store. So I get to try new stuff from time to time.
But personally I still use my trusty Terminal Mix 4, it is my controller of choice still (and Reloop does not even pay me for saying so…)
