DJ Vintage
ModeratorA perfect example why one should never upgrade a (windows) OS until at least the first Service Pack or such a time that the producers of critical (DJ) applications have shown that their then current version is working flawlessly.
May you all be warned! 😀

ParticipantI only upgraded the PC, not the laptop. But, thanks for your helpful input.

ParticipantI used my laptop as a sacrificial lamb yesterday and updated to Windows 10. My desktop workstation I left at Windows 7, as it’s what I’ve been using to make mixes on.
I had updated Traktor to 2.9 before I updated Windows, and when I tried running Traktor after moving to 10, I hit a problem where I load items into decks, but nothing will play or move. I can’t even manually search through a track in a deck.
After some online chat, one suggestion would be to 100% uninstall Traktor and then reinstall it. Some say it might be a driver issue. Regardless, I agree that one should not update their main PC to 10. Not yet. Windows 10 is running amazingly well on my laptop, but it’s issues like this that scream “WAIT” to a DJ.
Even NI said in their Knowledge Base that there is no guarantee their stuff will work on Windows 10 right now. MS is ironing out bugs and NI is doing compatibility checks. Best to be patient, or downgrade back to 7 or 8. I’m going to keep 10 on my laptop and learn it. I’ll share anything I figure out.

ParticipantOK…FIGURED IT OUT.
Apparently my output routing was all killed when I installed the new 2.9. Now it’s working perfectly.

ParticipantI was wondering about the uninstall/reinstall thing. I think I will try it, and will post results to this thread. I want to be ready for Traktor’s next iteration, which I expect will be Windows 10 ready.
Service Packs (or SP’s) usually take years to develop for MS products. As you know, Windows 8 nor 8.1 had a Service Pack issued, yet they worked fine for running my Traktor program; although, some may argue that 8.1 was 8’s first Service Pack, it was in-fact a different version and is the reason MS skipped over Windows 9 and went right to 10. Further thinking about this, if I upgrade to a new PC in the next year or so, which I need to do, it will likely have 10 already, with no service pack ready for it yet, and I want to know that Traktor will perform reliably on it. I think it is a NI driver issue more at this point than a MS issue, but I posted this topic for feedback and thoughts on it.

ParticipantCan’t hurt if users share their experiences with different software on Windows 10. I’m not making the leap until i hear the “all clear”.

ParticipantI strongly disagree with waiting until the first service pack to upgrade as often there are other system performance benefits and improvements that you’d be missing out on, but yes, in general you shouldn’t update your gig computers until the software you use has released a compatible version for the new OS. Right now all of the big three have not done so, although Virtual has a Win 10 compatible beta out now apparently.
Side note, this is not just a Windows issue as has been suggested – Apple OS updates have caused problems before in the past too. No matter the system, it is best to hold off at least a few months.

ParticipantI’m going to try to make my next mixset on this laptop. I’ll report what I see.
Right now, I love Windows 10. It took several minutes to boot up Windows 7 and be ready. Windows 10 it takes 20 seconds. If after a month I do not see any big issues, then I’ll take the plunge and update all my computers.

ParticipantI’ve had quite a stable update in djing point of view. Everything seems to work and I’ve played a couple of times without problems. My dj laptop is a little slow even in 8 so the desktop use isn’t atm a pleasure. My friends iphone caused distortion in sound since processor use went to 100%. Also my start menu and cortana died shortly after install for a short time. =D I think I’ll go back to 8 and check if there’s some hardware problems. I don’t need 10 for anything now.

ParticipantI’ve loaded Win 10 on my oldest, slowest machine and the difference is quite dramatic. However, I haven’t had a chance yet to go into the settings in detail to see if it is trying to use the same trick of Win 8 where when you shut down it is only hibernating the system instead of a full shut down.
