Well I am not sure I have to say. Just tried it on my Mac and it sounds exactly the same through iTunes and Traktor, both excellent (through my Focusrite into my Adams speakers).
So honestly it might be a Windows thing or something funky with the soundcard.

Do you still differing qualities if you run Traktor using your internal soundcard?
What about using WMP with your external soundcard?
Check you don’t have any filters or FX activated in Traktor and reset all your EQs

Sorry guys for delay working unbelievable amounts recently, its weird its the same using the onboard sound as using my soundcard, it loses quality when played out of traktor but on ipod media player whatever its a lot better, it is a cracked version so maybe that?? been meaning to buy for ages but been doing more production and wasnt getting many gigs and I moved abroad and just recently got a bank account so not been able to buy it, its been noticable for a long time, im thinking its maybe because its cracked now. Thanks for the advice

Don’t think cracked should have anything to do with it, although of course you should buy it! (Or get something else you might like now that you know Traktor 8-)).

There are a few things going on inside traktor of course, like limiting, perhaps compression, maybe a filter that’s on and slightly off centre. EQ’s not quite neutral.

There really is no reason why it shouldn’t sound like when you use media player or something similar. The other players don’t have any of the fancy options and will just play the plain track. In Traktor you have many tools. That is good, but bad in a sense that a wrong setting CAN cause things to sound worse.

In your OP you said it didn’t sound as clear. That is indicative of something going wrong between mid-high and hig. Which brings me back to the filter. Are you sure it is off?

Short anecdote: I just bought my MC6000 and was playing with Traktor. At one point I got no sound in my headphones when I cued one deck, the other played fine. I opened the fader a bit and still no sound. I flipped, swore and tossed a regular CD on as the next track (thank god for backup). I shut down Traktor and rebooted my laptop. When it came back up it was all peachy. Week or two later same problem, less stressful evening. So, I started looking at what was happening. I hadn’t used my filters yet, and one filter knob was turned anti-clockwise to the stop. Since both filters were turned off, nothing happened. Since the MC6000 has many great features, but it is a tad cramped, I had accidentally hit the on switch for the filter and with the knob turned all the way, the result was … no sound.

Goes to show that sometimes the simplest things can mess up something that really doesn’t need to be.

Thanks for the input chuck could help as now I have no sound, few nights ago was playing and it crashed twice, never crashes now theres no sound, never happened before. Dont know if the crashes and no sound are linked but the lack of quality has been there for a long time.

See I would work with traktor for months then leave it for months doing production just got some new tracks the other night and again this dip in quality was obvious, same out both onboard sound and soundcards. Usually is something simple but this quality thing has been a bugbear for a while, glad to hear its not a common thing, ive played out a few times with this set up and people liked it and it worked but I was aware of lack of quality before but went for it and it sounded fine but its defo there its pretty obvious when sitting at home playing the same track out of traktor or out of the computer whatever. Ill check all the settings again but my filters are off, thanks for the feedback guys appreciated 😉

Hey, Broom. Have you tried using Traktor’s Demo Version?

Hey mate no its a cracked copy, just uninstalled and reinstalled so got my sound back, tried it again and I dont know if its the eq or what, been messing with it to make it sound the same as the media player and its still not right to me, maybe its me I dunno but there just seems to be more clarity and definition and high/mid end in media player than in traktor, its passable but I notice a difference and no amount of eq changes change it, also just tried changing the eq types, no difference.

COINCIDENCE? I was just sitting here thinking to myself what happened to the sound from Traktor while I was doing a sound check before a gig this past Saturday. I use a Denon MC6000 Controller, Macbook 13″ (2008) and a registered copy of Traktor Pro 2.5. My partner and I usually plug into his Behringer Mixer. I also plug into my Behringer Mixer at home.

Well, for this particular gig we decided to plug into the MC6000 because it is truly a stand alone mixer. It appeared that Traktor and the Controller weren’t giving me that full sound. I don’t use Traktor’s LIMITER any more so as I’m sitting here typing this I’m wondering if it was some how enabled so I will need to confirm that.

I will add that I had Cross DJ opened in the background at the same time Traktor was open. The sound coming from Cross DJ was similarly a little weak too. After changing up songs a few times, we noticed that the sound appeared to have been corrected. Although my gain knobs were sitting 12 o’clock I did twist them to make sure they were synced with software, but I don’t think that should’ve been a factor because the problem wasn’t the loudness, but having a FULL sound.

What’s evidence of this is that my partner’s mixer/cd player was plugged into the MC6000. All I did was set him on the 4th Channel and his system was perfectly fine. However, Traktor and Cross DJ were having problems at first and then all of a sudden the sound was FULLER.

I also noticed that the speed of the songs seemed a little slower than normal during the gig. What could this be? Is it the laptop showing a few signs of age? I didn’t keep Cross DJ open all night. I just used it for cocktail hour. My wireless card was also turned off on the Macbook.

Just a weird situation. I remembered Broom having problems with his version so I wondered if anyone ever ran into similar issues with Traktor too?

UPDATE: I checked out Traktor last night. No other software was running except for Traktor. The LIMITER was definitely disabled. However, the Headroom option was set to +/- 6dB. Strangely enough, it’s always been set that way.

In any event, I noticed my 2nd channel was slightly lower than my 3rd channel on Traktor. I selected NONE for headroom and made sure the LIMITER was disabled. My 2nd channel still sounded soft. I kept playing around with the software. I moved the GAIN knobs and moved the EQ knobs over and over.

I believe when I moved the LOW end EQ knob right and left that may have sorted out the problem. Traktor didn’t show the LOW EQ as being out of sync with the mixer so that was a weird thing to see.

I have another gig coming up Saturday so I’m definitely going to play around with Traktor every night before then. Now, I know while booting up the computer and the mixer that I need to make sure I’m getting the same power on both channels. This has never happened before so I’m not sure why it’s happening now.

sometimes sliders and software aren’t at the same position, even after starting the software. I’m not sure why this is, but it definitely can affect the sound in various ways. I usually twinkle with main controls before playing just to get software to connect with hardware. If for example channel fader is 100% up in software and it’s not in the controller, you push play on that decks and start looking for next song. After first song you mix and pull first song fader down and nothing happens because of this.
