Hmmm, isn’t it your job as a DJ to stay up to date with the music you are going to play??

Very true, but to be honest I don’t really class my self as a DJ who plays out a lot as a result I tend to purchase music for my self and stay away from mainstream mind you I did have a thought about “now that’s what I call music”

You should leave a dj who has experience in that style of music to play it. You play what you know. That’s my 2 cents.

As I will be the only DJ on the night think I should get my hands dirty with mainstream and thanks for the comments

Have you played top 40 before?

No not played the top 40 before, it’s a new club unknown audience therefore will have to play it by ear and hopefully get through the night It’s going to be a long, long 4 hours.

I just want to be prepared if my style of music not working then fall back onto the top 40 have spoken to the manager but not very helpful, looking to play House, Electro-House, RnB, Mainstream, Tech-House and Indie Dance. Starts at 10pm so an hours warm up, Peak Time, Then finish off 🙂

Sounds like you play a wide variety of music so you probably vary your mixing style, but if it was me, I would practice mixing top 40 a lot before the gig because I never have played it before.
