What cpu? Only the speed doesn’t mean too much. That said 1.6GHz seems a tad on the low end. My advice would be to have an i5 as minimum. Especially in light of going Logic Pro in the future.

8GB should be ok for DJ-ing. For production … I’ll leave that to our readers that use DAWs (like Logic Pro).
SSD is always great to have.

Thunderbolt is a typical Apple port they developed for high speed connections. I don’t know of any MacBook Pros that come with only two TB ports. The newest model DOES come with only 2 USB-C ports though. Those are backward compatible so hooking up stuff shouldn’t be too difficult. There is even a clever dock for it. Don’t forget you’ll need one of the USB-C ports to charge your laptop!

The OS finally is something you don’t have to worry about. Mac OS as it’s now called (used to be OS-X) is what you get. You CAN make the machine so it boots with Windows, but why would you. All the software you mention has Mac versions (Logic is even mac-only).

    Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes i5 is a minimum requirment from what ive read.

Ok, i read the specs wrong. Its says USB TYPE C (Thunderbolt 3) ×2 ports.

Ive now found one with 2.0GHz boosted to 3.1GHz. Would this be a vast improvement on the 1.6GHz

As for the operating system i just wasn’t sure about the Sierras and the El capitans but i guess from your reply that they all fall into the OS system so all should be well

Yeah, they are are like windows 7, 8 and 10. Called OS X up til Sierra. Sierra is called macOS. If you buy a new one, you will get Sierra pre-installed.

Not too sure what CPU load on Traktor is these days, but if the price is not too radically different, generally speaking the higher the frequency the better the performance. Especially in things like DAWs that might make a noticeable difference.

After another browse on the apple store i can get a macbook air with
    Core i7
    8gb ram
    512ssd
    2.2GHz
For the same price as the Pro i was looking at earlier.

Next months payday cant come quick enough

Sounds like a beast :-). 13″ is too small for my old eyes, but my wife has one and loves it.

    Hi there,

I’m actually pretty bad when it comes to computer specs etc. but I can give you my experiences production software wise.

I use MacBook Pro with specs:
    -2,7 GHz Intel Core i5
    -8 Gt RAM

I use Ableton Live 9 and some ‘heavy’ plug-ins such as Waves Audio, Maschine 2.0, Kontakt etc.. Yet I haven’t encountered any CPU problems. On worst times my CPU have been at 40% but usually on finished tracks it’s around 15-30%, no crackles or any other problems. So atleast to me, it seems like your choice of computer is up to the job to work ez with Logic Pro. Oh, I should say that my tracks are max 10 track projects so if you’re looking to do some 20-30 track projects… I cannot guarantee your choice works well.

Also if you haven’t thought of this yet, get a decent soundcard if you don’t have one. By decent I don’t mean it needs to costs hundreds… There are MANY decent options within the price range of 100-200€ (Yamaha AG series are deffo my favorites from that price range)

Hope this helped even a little. Have fun with your choice! 🙂
