    This is a misleading question…..Controllers are “tools”….As such, the BEST controller is the one that suits YOU BEST. I dont believe there is a universal answer to that as there never was a universal answer to the BEST DJing software or the BEST DAW. It all comes down to personal preference and opinion. That being said, Im pretty sure the BEST controller for me is my BCR 2000 teamed up with an iPad, which I havent purchased yet.

    That’s like saying “what’s the best car”. There’s no right answer.

    I know that there is no Right answer, but I created this thread looking for just answers, opinions, no matter if their “right “
    or “wrong”

    My mistake, I think the best question for this thread is:

    Whats your favourite controller??

    I also would be weary of opinions from anyone who hasn’t used the controllers they comment on. For instance, I was considering selling my S4 in hopes of purchasing the more portable Novation Twitch. From what I’ve read and seen it seems like a viable option, but I’ve never touched let alone seen one offline. I could absolutely hate the look, feel, and workflow once acquiring one, you know?

    Thus far my favorite controller to date would be the S4. I’ve tested models from Vestax, Numark, Hercules, American DJ, and Denon, but have found the S4’s layout most suitable to my sensibilities. My only improvements would be booth outputs, Vestax jogs, metal chassis, and the feel of the x fader . . . A BPM counter like the 4D would be boss, but perhaps a tad greedy lol

    Denon mc6000 for me. Solid piece of kit with all the input connections you could ever need.

    I like the SCS4DJ the best (disclaimer, I was the lead tester for this product) but that is still my Honest answer. I like the S4, but it ain’t worth what they charge for it. I wouldn’t pay a penny over $600 for it.
    The VCI-300 is a nice controller, better than the S4, IMO.
    but the 4dj gives you so much, and costs less than those others…

    Like you say tools!
    I don’t need any tools ( controller) that I can’t use so for me the s2 is spot on I can use all the functions and its pretty up to date with what’s goin on in the digital world.

    The best controller for me would be Denon 2xS3700 and a X1700 mixer.
    Second best Pioneer 2x CDJ2000 1x DJM2000
    Third best Denon MC6000
    4 = Denon MC300
    5 = Numark NS6
    6 = NI S4
    7 = NI S2
    8 = Numark Mixtrack Pro & Pio controllers except Ergo
    9 = the rest

    I have a hard time understanding how anyone could DJ without joggwheels.
    I would never even considder that. Please explain? How do you scratch with that stripthing?
    I am proberbly too old for this game and should sell my stuff and do something else?
    Nowdays there is no fun left in DJ’ing, pushing autosync and no joggs, bah!

    Thats a little harsh. One man’s meat is another man’s poison I suppose. My dj friends used to give me flak when I mention a controller i’m looking to buy. They all about funk and soul, and how djing used to and should be done. Serious about their craft and music. I respect the craft and culture of djing and i don’t even call myself a dj. But this is my stand about digital djing with controllers.

    I always liken the djing trade with painting. Traditional brushes, paint and canvas vs digital photoshop painting. They both have its pros and cons and different skill sets are required for the desired medium. But the end of the day, they are both mediums to get the artwork/idea across. Of course, one should always know and respect the intricacy involved with traditional methods since it inspired digital mediums. Similar to Djing and digital djs.

    Now to answer your question, how can anyone dj on this thing? Well, i just love music. Sharing that love and having fun is the top priority on my list, over technicalities. I didn’t grow up in the vinyl era, instead i ‘crate dug’ cds during my weekends. CDJs seem like the way to go, but if i wanted that decks+mixer route, i’d rather do turns (which i have, that i line in to my Twitch for some added variety). Aren’t CDJs just like controllers, mimicking turntables?

    So as not to be hijackin this thread (apologies Mr. Toxic), I’ll state why I like Twitch. It doesn’t try to recreate the experience of traditional djing, instead, it takes the pros of digital djing and focuses on that. About autosync, I always avoid autosync, not to proof a point, but i think it makes the mixes sound robotic. Sometimes the drifitng of beats adds a human touch to the mix.

    The day i bought my Twitch home, my curious brother walked over to check it out. I explained the different modes for the ‘performance pads to him, and invited him to have a go on the empty deck. With minimal djing experience, he picked it up within minutes, and we jammed for hours. I mixed the beats, while he played with the slicer and autoloops on the other deck. Most fun i had with a controller ever. I know my bro enjoyed it too cause after that, he drops in more often to mess around with Twitch. To me, that experience alone explains my definition of fun.

    On the contrary to your statement, i think controllers have made djing more fun by opening up more musical possibilities and making it accessible to a wider audience. Made it easier to share your love of music

    I came from CDJs, never spun vinyl. I have the Reloop J3 ME. It is my first controller and I really don’t have anything to compare it to. Having said that I bought it for the specs (Line in, booth out and volume control, adjustable jogs) and the build quality. This thing is built like a tank. So far I’m very happy with it, but will be interested to get my hands on some other controllers (Twitch is very intriguing to me).

    It’s not designed to scratch…

    Plus serato sync sucks major balls.
