You can easily just use it as a hybrid set up with 2x CDJs and 2x Midi Channel and you are prepared for a laptop crash. Sure, you may not need that, but if you do, it’s there.

You’ve made assumptions based on what you’ve seen in dj booths. I gave you an example of what else people can run into in dj booths. As to how a CDJ or turntablist would work at that particular venue I used as an example, they would bring what they wanted to use, just as I bring what I want to use. “Blank slate” booths are pretty common around here (or the house gear is such garbage nobody uses it) and it has probably helped the cause of controllerism as most of us prefer to carry a controller than hauling all the gear we used to.

If you are any kind of professional DJ you scope out the venue and ask what they have their before u even show up

I was never arguing with you…i was stating why Joons idea was not practical…and giving cheaper easier and more portable options to what Joon was saying…

    sigh…you can lead a horse to water…

A Good DJ in any scenario tests all his equipment and makes sure its ready before any gig.

I have done numerous gigs and shows and NEVER had my laptop crash, not once…not even a hiccup…but mind you i make sure everything is working perfectly before every show and my laptop is ONLY meant for DJing…i dont even have it connected to the internet EVER…i download music and do all that off my other computer and just transfer over.

You’re right, because this is the start of such a friendly and polite discussion.

So again, just to be clear what I was talking about, you stated “but 99.5% of the times there is always a mixer in the club” and “where do you use an S4 that doesnt already have an existing mixer”. I replied to those comments, and just those comments, and gave some examples. Then you started after me for something Joon said about CDJ’s. My point was, and continues to be that we as dj’s can’t count on a mixer (or at least not a good one) in every booth we set up in so make sure we know what we are setting up with and have equipment to match.

Again, if you are going to lecture people on “reading the entire post before u quote” you should do the same.

    No, apparently you really can’t.

    Okay todd you win…happy? jeeeebus….

yawn this is boring me now…can we get back on topic?

at the end of the Day…having Standalone Mixer Capability is a luxury and not a necessity…If the controller has EVERYthing you want except that…dont like the standalone function be a deciding factor…Integration and actually usability is more of a factor than something that can be a safety net. If a CDJ goes down during your set u are just as screwed

I don’t think Todd was talking about CDJs… more the ability to hook up an MP3 player or something and if your computer goes down you can bring it straight in through the controller (which is also a stand alone mixer)

It’s a feature I wish my controller had, not saying I’d want to use it, but it’d be good to have it, one of my residencies has no house gear (South American themed restaurant/bar/club, had previously just used a computer playlist) and if my laptop ever did crash there’d be silence for a bit while I swapped the leads around

Since U said U know how to work with CDJ`s and DJM .. I think U should stick to them .. IMHO there is no ” high end ” controller that can perform better than these ones. Try a 4x CDJ 2000 + DJM 2000 using rekordbox at home to fix your tracks and U should do just fine. U feel better using Traktor only ? It`s not a problem U can use them as controllers also.

    Well…
I like the flexibility of Traktor and its components, in this case most likely the vci400. So instead of buying a djm2000 i have my vci400 which s got better integration with the software, and even tho i like that setup, there r 2 things which keep me from buying it:

    1. Space, I dont nearly have space for such a setup
    2. I dont have ~10.000 Euro
