ParticipantI don’t have personal experience with any of the controllers you’ve listed, although I know the S2 does not have 4 deck control, as that seems what you’re looking for. But no radio station is going to have a requirement for a “top notch” controller. As long as you’re making good music and you can hook up properly to their system, anyone who knows what they’re doing won’t care about what you’re using to dj.
In any case, I’ve been using the Numark N4 for awhile now and it’s been great for me. It’s got 4 deck control and is TP2 compatible.

ParticipantI’m a little confused by what you are looking for… I’m not sure why you think the radio people wouldn’t be okay with the Denon 6000 – it is probably the highest quality controller of those you listed (both for sound quality and build quality). You also say you don’t like the lighting, but then list the Ergo as an option (probably the most garish controller on the market at the moment) – what are you looking for in lighting from a controller? More, less?

ParticipantIs money an issue? Maybe look at the Numark 4Trak.

MemberHey,
and thanms alot for the posts!
so the thing is that the radio station actly only accepts djs who use an “ordinary” setup like cdjs+mixer
but since i kniw them well and they know me ofc they said they would make an exception for meand the exception means one of the controlers listed aboveand thats also why i had the ergo listed, its i. the list of the few controlers they do accept. and to be honest I dont know why they wouldnt accept the denon controler..
even though I dont like the lights.. I could get used to it and even a friend of mi.e who is a dj 2 told me that one would be my best choice.. So i gues if i can convince them about the denon it would be a good thing..And to answer the mast question:
It shouldnt be too expensive, about 800€ is my limit which would be 1066$ right now.April 1, 2012 at 9:21 pm #17726Stephen Bishop
MemberHi Yozakura,
I’m interested in reading the responses to your question as I’m considering the same controllers. Right now I have a traditional set up – Pioneer DJM700 and 2 x CDJ1000’s + 2 x 1210’s.
I’ve been using Traktor Pro 2 for a few months now and feel it’s time to invest in a decent controller.
My shortlist so far:
Traktor Kontrol S4 – Obviously the best in terms of mapping with Traktor Pro 2, but there’s no option to use it as a stand alone mixer, no booth out, and I don’t like the way the jog wheels are set back. And it looks so cheap!!
Denon DN-MC6000 – Operates as stand alone mixer and has booth out, but looks overkill and apparently fiddly/cramped to use.
Vestax VCI-400 – Best jog wheels out there (so I’ve read), solid metal construction and looks the absolute dogs danglies! However, can’t be used as stand alone mixer and no booth out.
Reloop Jockey 3 ME – Looks perfect in terms of mapping with Traktor Pro 2 and the fact that it can be used as stand alone mixer and has booth out. But I read a lot about poor jog controls. Apparently this was a software issue with prototype models and was due to be fixed for production, but I can’t find anything to say that it’s been resolved.
So far for me, I think it’s between the S4 and the Jockey 3. Would be good to see if anyone has anything to highlight about these controllers.

ParticipantPeople keep calling the 6000 cramped, and while it isn’t spacious, it also isn’t that difficult to find your way around. I’ve been known to occasionally enjoy a few beverages at shows, and I don’t get all stumblely and start mashing the wrong buttons – but then again, I’m also used to Denon rack mounts, so that could help. Nonetheless, to each their own, but before anyone dismisses it as too cramped, play on it a little.
Also, the VCI-400 will act as a standalone mixer with the latest firmware update. If I didn’t already have the Denon, I just might be drooling all over this thing…April 2, 2012 at 2:45 pm #17775Yozakura
MemberYeah true,
I have seen the picture of Vestaxt showing that theyd put in the standalone mixer function, but wasn’t there some sort of a box in between the 400 and the CDJs?
And @ Bishop…
man if I had a pair of 1210s I wouldn’t wanna buy a controller without the standalone mixing function either..^^And I think the Jockey3 sounds sort of interesting, but what sort of keeps me from really wanting it, is the fact that I’d have to switch between the Decks all the time to get to the Mixer sections of the 4 Decks….
And when you mashup on, lets say, deck A and B those tracks run simultaneously, meaning you also have to EQ them at the same time while EQing the upcoming track on C or D, or if your very advanced even both!So that’s a negative aspect I can’t deny…
So for me it’s between the Denon MC-6000 and the VCI-400 (if it really actually comes with standalone function without buying some extra gadgets)April 2, 2012 at 6:08 pm #1003470Stephen Bishop
MemberTake a look at my thread here: http://www.digitaldjtips.com/forum/threads/traktor-pro-2-controller.3249/
I’m thinking along the same lines as you, Yozakura – if I can find proof that the VCI-400 can now be used as a stand alone mixer, I’ll be reaching for my credit card!!

MemberWell
I think I’m more attracted to the Denon because the VCI-400 s got so many mappable buttons which I wouldn’t self map, and I’m not the big Cue user, so the Denon goes nicer with my needs 😀And I think for yours 2 actlly!
I mean the VCI does not come with the node you need for your TTs… 😉April 2, 2012 at 7:53 pm #17817djsubculture@gmail.com
ParticipantAs a MC6000 user, I say get the VCI-400.
In fact, I’d recommend the Ean Golden Edition from DJ Tech Tools.April 2, 2012 at 8:07 pm #17819Yozakura
MemberHow come?
In what way do you think the VCI is better? And do you think it still makes sense even if I wouldn’t use all the buttons self mapped?

So what they do accept are these:
Pio DDJ-T1 (but i rly RLY hate the software limitations.. can you use it with Traktor Pro2 as well? because I have heard that there are issues doing so..)FYI… I use the T1 with Traktor Pro2…. Never had a single issue.

For starters, 8 cue buttons per side as opposed to 4.
Lower profile jog wheels. I have big hands and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost ruind mixes because I inadvertently bumper into them while playing.
And speaking of buttons, more buttons gives you greater flexibility down the line should you decide to start mapping.April 3, 2012 at 7:51 am #17845Phil Morse
KeymasterVCI-400 can now be used as a standalone mixer since the latest firmware upgrade.
