Participanti personally use mixcloud as don’t wanna pay the Soundcloud fees and not actually be able to keep my mixes on line without them being removed. It essentially offers the same service but one element i’m disappointed about is the lack of ability to download. Always have people streaming my mixes and then contacting me for download links. Essentially now i have to upload a mix twice, once to mixcloud for streaming and once to Mediafire for filestorage and download purposes.
Also the mixcloud iphone app could be much improved if the sound quality was streamed at a higher quality…. but thats a separate issue 😉

KeymasterI am actually not that much of a fan of having my mixes online. I used to put my setlist online after an even so guests did know what I am spinning, but since soundhog or shazam even that is unnecessary.
I put some colaboration experiments on soundcloud now and then, but those are mostly hugely experimental and not finished brushed stuff.July 27, 2012 at 11:59 am #1008734Miec
MemberFirst off, I am lucky enough to play music that isn’t immediately removed by SoundCloud. However, I have tried Mixcloud since I’m not happy with the limited capacity of a free SoundCloud account.
I like the track lists in Mixcloud, but there is are two things why I prefer to stay with SoundCloud. The first is that you can’t quickly skip through mix on Mixcloud, which is a real deal breaker for me, especially when listening to promo mixes. I did a open decks night once and I strongly preferred SoundCloud mixes sent with applications. It may be a bit unfair, but if I get a Mixcloud link and I am bored within the first 1-2 tracks, I won’t listen to the rest. In SoundCloud i can just skip through and might really like it later in the mix. And if I send out promo mixes, I do it via SoundCloud for exactly the same reasons.
Even if I listen to podcasts of artists I generally like, I prefer to get a quick glimpse on what to expect.
The second reason I prefer SoundCloud is the direct download function. My phone is packed with podcasts and I prefer to be able to download them without having to deal with Captchas and wait times.
So if anyone knows a site that combines Mixcloud’s playlists and capacity with SoundCloud’s player and download functions, let me know!

MemberI’ve been using Mixcloud since the start of the year, and I don’t have a single complaint. I’d prefer people not to download my mixes, because the more they use Mixcloud, the better the service will become (I’d rather Mixcloud make money and pay the artists as they claim, rather than using it as a fileshare service). If I want people to download a mix, I have an email list of people that I’ll shoot Sendspace.com links to.
I like the fact that you can pay for exposure on Mixcloud (though I’ve never done it), and that after you’ve finished listening to a mix, the service will start up another one in a similar style. I’d like to think I get a couple of listens this way myself.
Also, in response to Miec: You can skip a head in a Mixcloud mix as long as the entire track is buffered. Doesn’t help with your desired use (because it takes time for the whole thing to buffer), but at least the function is there.

Participanti post them on my site, MixCloud, and MixCrate. I’ll still upload my latest mix on SoundCloud, but I don’t see a lot of traffic from that.
I personally recommend all three options simply because you want traffic, first and foremost. Spread it out, get the hits everywhere.

ParticipantI’ve started with Mixcrate+Soundcloud combo…. After hitting the ammount of mixes limit on soundcloud I’ve quit uploading there and went over to mixcloud.
I still continue uploading to mixcrate every new mix because the dates of upload is like a background history for me. (yeah I can be sentimental) 🙂
Mixcloud is cool and I specially like that you can use song list from traktor/serato so you dont have to type the name of the songs in your mix.
I’ve jumped on the mydjtube train, it’s still a very-very new site (just turned 1 month old) and you can upload and rank mixes there.July 28, 2012 at 4:26 am #1008786DJXKhan
MemberI post my mixes on four different sites.
http://www.mixcrate.com/djxkhan
http://www.mixcloud.com/djxkhan/
http://soundcloud.com/dj-xkhan
http://www.house-mixes.com/profile/alexthegreat
They all have there advantages. I like mixcrats dj profile page. I like mixclouds link to serato for ease of playlist uploading. I like the waveforms in soundcloud. I get the most exposure (plays, downloads and comments) on housemixes.com. For 5 pounds on housemixes you get top of the page for a week and you get at least 100 plays
What I don’t like is the cost of soundcloud and the limit of allowable upload hours. I get the least amount of exposure on mixcloud. Don’t really have any thing bad to say about mixcrate.
I post the most on mixcrate. The good and great mixes on housemixes.com Due to limited space I only try to put my favorite mixes there.
I also have a beatport page but I can’t upload there yet.

ParticipantI use mixcloud because I like the look and the fact that it forces you to post your tracklisting. However, I have not really been thinking about the amount of people I reach with it. My cloudcasts are only listened to by 20 to 30 people, but I haven’t been very active in promoting them either. Something I’d like to improve in 2013.

ParticipantI use a combination of Soundcloud and Mixcrate to get my mixes out there. The reason I use these two sites over any others, is that they both allow the listener to download the mix.
Every fortnight I create and upload a mix in a series I am doing called “Club Sound”. These mixes contain big room dance and big room house anthems. The ability for the user to be able to download my mixes is a very important aspect for me as it allows my mixes to be listened to and played basically anywhere, and along with the odd name drop and well tagged MP3 file, it is great way to get my name out there.
http://www.soundcloud.com/dj-ky-3 – (Soundcloud is a very popular, well known and very well designed website but the downside is that mixes can disappear at the drop of a hat due to copyright issues)
http://www.mixcrate.com/djyaka – (Mixcrate has no copyright issues that I have encountered, but on the down side it is probably not as popular or well respected as Soundcloud)

ParticipantI forgot to add this, but I also put my mixes on a filesharing site (in my case dnbshare.com) and put a downloadlink in the comments of my MixCloud mixes. I haven’t checked if there are any rules against this in the mixcloud policy, but I didn’t get any trouble from them yet.

ParticipantI pretty much use everything everyone listed here except I havent checked out mixcrate yet. I also post to hulkshare for my downloads. Really wish that soundcloud had more free space or better rates…it def the most popular one.

ParticipantI just use Mixcloud….Soundcloud for my productions but that’s not going too well at the moment (currently unable to achieve sufficient sound quality), need to invest in some good studio monitors.
Whenever people tell me they want to download my mix I send them over to http://offliberty.com/ which can be used to extract embedded stuff from websites.
I don’t feel taking the extra effort uploading my mixes to some megaupload siteJanuary 15, 2013 at 12:58 pm #35083J-Zed
ParticipantMixcloud, I love that site, the layout and they keep doing little things here and there to improve it all the time. The only thing I wish we could get is a bit more personalization on our home page to spice things up a bit.
