Home 2023 Forums Digital DJ Gear Where can I find vinyl-like turntables that act as CDJ's for Serato, but still have the vinyl feel?

There is only one real option for you, grasshopper … DENON SC3900. You will absolutely love them. All the vinyl feel and torque of an SL-1200, but without the arm and the cartridge.

    9″ platters … yummy!

Numark NS7 II will also work… but I cannot tell if it is already available in numbers.

If you are willing to settle for all-in-on like 7″ platters, sure.

If you are looking for 9″ CDJ-style & size (900/2000) then no, just the Denon lol :-p

BMW 316i from 1995 8-), I love the classic looks.

And OP never talked about money/budget. I figured if you can “replace your current controller because, well, I just want to” that there is a certain leeway in the budget.

He didn’t say “I want vinyl-like controllers that I can use with Serato, but I only have 400USD to spend” :D.

Not sure what the NS7-II will set him back where he is, but here it is about 1995 dollar. Granted if you get two SC3900s (1295 ea) you,d still need a serato approved mixer if you plan on doing DVS. So yeah, most definitely a more expensive option. The NS7-II comes with Serato, the Denon solution doesn’t.

Having said that, there ARE a few differences. Like being able to play CD’s and USB sticks straight from the players. They can be used standalone in a CDJ/club-like setup. I think a mixer/sc3900 setup is in a way different ballpark (and requires a way different approach/workflow) than a controller (even one that is as nice as the NS7-II).

Again, he asked a question, we answered, lol.

What exactly is a “USB turntable”?

Its a turntable with a USB plug. Mostly for hooking up the turntable to your computer to digitize vinyls.

Yeah the SC3900 are sweet 😉 and yes with a Serato Mixer (the new rane is so sexy…) it would be awesome, but extremely expensive and you need to hook everything up …
The NS 7 II while still expensive and smaller platters, they do feel nice. I only had hands on time with the prototype, but the platters felt very good, torque was nice and also adjustable (not sure how much) and you can definitely pull of all the scratch moves you want.

So in the end it will be a matter of taste and budget.

I really want that vinyl feel so that scratching is easier and more efficient. On my current controller, the platters are only 4″ in diameter and they’re so difficult to scratch on. It’s a good controller for electro-dance music but most of my music is hip hop! What do you scratch with, Terry?

Well I am scratching on my Terminal Mix 4. I think it has the best jogwheels in the industry for scratching (apart from the motorized on the NS7 II, which costs A LOT more).

You can check out DJ Angelos scratch demo here, and yes he can pull it off, I have seen it live…

And here is a video of the old NS 7 the new NS 7 II has lots of advancements…

Wow! That Terminal Mix 4 looks very nice, and affordable. I’m not a fan of the NS7, to be honest. I think it’s a neat, innovative device but it’s just too large, expensive and clunky for me, a beginner, mobile DJ. I would make an exception, though, if there was a more affordable way of getting digitized turntables for Serato.

But you would recommend the Terminal Mix 4 over the Numark NS6?

Well I really do not like the NS 6. It always looked to me like a traktor controller (and actually they made the 4Trak out of it) and hence hugely prefer the Terminal Mix. As I said if you want to scratch on a controller with really tight Serato integration, the Terminal Mix is the way to go in that price range.
