And I’ve only heard in once that night, but I don’t know if it was only that night. This guy has opened for Elton John, Bob Sinclar and many others, and also plays in the biggest clubs.

Only in the worlds of hip hop, breaks, and EDM is there such contention about what a DJ is. For instance, in salsa, blues, and swing dance communities, it is not uncommon to have a “DJ contest” where people will come to the venue with a playlist on their ipod to play music that night and modify the list based on how the crowd reacts during their hour-long “DJ” slot. This is the most important part of DJing: making people dance, keeping everyone happy, and maintaining the energy of the party.

i like to think the moment i became a dj is when i entered my first battle…against some of the heavy hitters in my city… and after being told id get slayed and crushed… took second place.. but i won the crowd vote..just not the judges vote.. so from that moment on… i think i earned my title DJ

5 years into a DJ career and being paid well, I still felt like a fraud!
