MemberFor me it’s mostly mainstream house live and it was mainstream house when I first started out (man I am boring..)
But to answer the question in the name of the thread, my favourite genre of music when it comes to mixing is Deep house.. just comes naturally for me there 🙂

Member1. Live, I will play what I think the crowd will like, I usually don’t pre-plan my sets. For instance if it’s supposed to be a house night but if there is clearly a hip hop crowd in the club, I will try to find a crossover song and maybe play a hip hop set for a bit – I love playing to the audience. I do like mixing almost everything, but right now i’m really into electro house and dubstep sounds watching people lose their minds to a HUGE drop is just awesome.
I started mixing with just house tracks – the simple 4×4 beats made it easy for me to learn how to beatmatch and gave me some quick satisfaction for mixing.

KeymasterMy first was what is now called “old school house” (it wasn’t old school back then!). Now I play slo-mo disco, Balearic, mellow dubstep and downtempo.

ParticipantI started with a hard techno back in 2003, after that i put some time in IDM, after a year of IDM-ing I started to play twisted and fuckedup berlin minimal (spooky melodic sounds) last few years i play dirty and tribal techouse at parties and progressive minimal at afterparties

ParticipantI play different styles depending on the moment. Sometimes I’ll play deep soulful house or funky “jackin” house. Other times I’ll intertwine electro house with breaks. I recently got into more upbeat techno and tech-house. I also love energetic big room trance.
When I started back in 1992, I was buying a lot of the house from 1987-1991, but rave techno was also big at the time, so also played that.

MemberIve always loved hip-hop to listen to and where I’m from thats what theres a big market for. But recently I’ve been messing around with some DnB and Dubstep, and hope to find a club that would have those genres.

Participanti got started in mixing more hip-hop/top 40 music for highschool gigs and such and quickly found myself moving more to deep house/electro and dubstep though.

MemberI started out playing techno (Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke,etc) then was inspired by Sasha’s method of long mixes (in key) and began to play more progressive and trance. Nowadays I play more melodic tech stuff like Michael Mayer or Superpitcher.

MemberI jumped in at the deep end and started with Drum & Bass. It’s also my favourite to mix as it has so much energy and it’s a challenge to mix well.

Memberstarted off mixing pretty mainstream house and remixes, but quickly moved onto big and heavy electro house, dubstep and some DnB. I love listening to DnB but don’t work it into my sets that often.
Having said that, I also enjoy mixing things like french house. I like something with a bit of groove to it.

ParticipantWhen I first started buying vinyl I had no clue what I was doing. After a few years I had something like 4 dance singles, 5 DnB, 3 House, 5 Hip-Hop…you get the drift.
Many years later when I decided to get serious with it, I found that Breakbeat was my genre. I love messing with other styles like Hardcore, Euro Dance, DnB, Dubstep and Hard Trance. But if you were to scan my collection, you’d see the Breakbeat is the clear winner.

MemberWhen I began DJ’ing my Style was Straight Upfront House Music; I then moved into Techno Sets; and now having spent a number of years with Severe Health Challenges; i have had the Opportunity to Explore other Genres;
On each of my Radio Shows I play a Different Genre Depending on my Mood;
House; Deep House; Hard House; Techno; Breakbeat; Drum & Bass; Dubstep;
And I also (like a previous poster said) like to ‘Mix Up’ my Sets; so in a 2 hour Set I will move between 5 Different Genres;
My Most Recent Technique in getting from House to Dubstep is using a ‘Tek-One’ Remix; and this works So Well 🙂June 26, 2011 at 2:32 pm #743Mindfloat
Memberwhen i started it was techno,just techno(no “hands up” stuff)-today its progressive psytrance,psytrance,darkpsy,i can`t stand nowadays “techno”,only things i listen to technowise is chris liebings CLR stuff,there are a few artists that produce really good tracks but the rest is dumping at 128bpm and riding the minimal train which i really hate..for me minimal is music for a cocktail bar but not to dance .-) also the “psy” scene is much more open to different styles than the techno scene nowadays which has its “heroes” but somehow techno stands still in my opinion.
@Rob Francis:Michael Mayer,Superpitcher? im coming from Cologne,Germany where the Kompakt Headquarters are,Kompakt was my favourite recordstore in the Vinyl Days,spent many hours(and money)there .-)

Yea as of late, I’ve been on a big Nu-disco/French House kick. The classic basslines and grooves are just too good to pass up, Xinobi, Bit Funk, etc. Duck Sauce has been putting out some anthems, of course we all know Barbra Streisand, but I heard Busy P drop a Duck Sauce track at Hard Haunted on YouTube which borrows heavily from La Flavour’s ‘Mandolay’. Definitely worth checking out if you dig the Disco beats. It’s a BANGER. Hell, every now and then I’ll mix in a Chic track just for good measure.
