The most annoying for me is the one that requests a song and then after you play it, comes back with a list of 20 written on a napkin… Then if you don’t have it they’ll ask if you can hook up their iphone lol. Requests don’t really bother me, but this is an exception. No tips I might add.

Oh I so hate these folk.. and to top it off, if your setup is open like mine, they would proceed to bring the mp3 player to you so you can, basically, stop what youre doing so you can hear this amazing request that’s not in your library… ugh!

Depending on the night, there is always a handful of people at a venue that annoy me always with the same requests or acts.
One of them is a guy who tries to offer me drinks for making me to play trance, with this request he also says that he can get a cd from his car to play from my hard drive. He even asks if I can go on youtube. Now imagine this in a venue where most of the dancefloor is female.
Another is a girl who keeps on asking for the same songs and if I say I don’t have it they ask if I can go to youtube or download it, through the wireless hotspot.
But worst of all was a group of girls, and this happened in my second to last gig, where they entered the both messed up with the controlers and even unplugged them. After that I had to play the rest of the night with keyboard and mouse.

I wish I could but I managed to push them away of the booth, restarted traktor to at least have the soundcard working and do it as I said: mouse & keyboard

The first thing that comes to mind as “annoying” are the times someone places a request and then proceeds to hang around the booth waiting for me to play it. It creates a really uncomfortable atmosphere – as if their entitled to whatever they requested to be played right away (or at all for that matter). Next to that would be people who return to the booth and ask why their request hasn’t been played yet, and/or when I’m going to play it. I really want to tell these people to just chill-out, go get another drink and find someone to dance with in the meantime. I don’t mind requests too much because it’s valuable info for reading the crowd, but I hate being treated like a jukebox.

Now that is the singularly most annoying, irritating person ever. Even worse than the drunk space invader.

I’ve had this very situation on numerous occasions where they:

    1. make a request exactly as you’re lining up a mix, approx 45 seconds from the end of the current track, just so you get distracted
    2. make their crap request then hang around the booth like a bad, nauseous, gassy fart which is burning your eyes and nose simultaneously, and making you choke
    3. make a face and start acting all indignantly when your next tune (about 30 seconds after they requested) comes through the speakers and they realise it’s not theirs

Who are these people and how did their parents bring them up?

I don’t let it get to me. I neither agree nor disagree with their request, I won’t say I will, won’t say I won’t. That sends a kind of underlying message to them that I’m in charge and I’m not listening to any self-centred brat.

These people deserve a thrashing with bamboo sticks.

Another request (similar to what is said above) that I couldn’t believe once was: “What do you suggest to us?”

As though I was some waiter in a restaurant recommending specials!

Instant Automatic Cue: put headphones back on, concentrate on finding tunes and never ever even make eye contact with them again, ever

My answer would be “Um…everything I’ve just been playing”

I still think many make requests for the sake of making requests.

Last night, one of the most annoying was the bar owner’s son. When he gets drunk, he insists I immediately play the songs he wants to hear. He pulled this last night. When I didn’t cater to him, he jumps on the bar’s piano and almost drowns out the music I’m playing. Has anyone else delt with a troublemaker connected to the owner or manager?

Many times. Whenever ANYONE claims they’re “close” with some member of the management, I tell him/her to bring the manager here and tell me. I usually do this ONLY when the requests are totally conflicting with the overall vibe.

Sometimes I’ve told trixies who claim they know the owner that the owner isn’t in charge here tonight…that it’s the promoter. They get mad, but the promoters were glad I didn’t destroy their night to please a trixie. Even when the owner comes over and asks me to play the girl’s requests, I’ll simply and politely say that I would be happy to, but I do not want to wreck the promoter’s night and thus they should make sure it’s ok with them.

I just think people get into this “me me me me me me” mode and forget it’s not about just them. The worst was when a promoter told me to play whatever BS some trixie wanted to hear because he wanted to lay her later. You can see why his event didn’t last very long and got labeled “lame” very quickly.

Bar owner’s son is no different. If his requests are going to make a mess of the night, then I insist I get a green light from whoever is in charge. It sounds like a lot, but if playing some brat’s request is going to cause 1/4 or more of the crowd to leave, then one has to ask what’s more important.
