MemberSince upgrading to Digital, I have gone through 3 generations of Traktor and now have Traktor Pro 2. I use this on my Macbook from 2007, want to upgrade to a pro but just do not have the cash. Will be buying a Kontrol X1 in the next few weeks. Used to play on Vinyl with 2 1210’s and A DJM300 mixer. I like the straight play style when I play as close to playing with Vinyl as possible. I know lots of people who use ableton and play tons of loops and pre set beats but I just can not get into that.
I would say get Traktor with the X1 and use with your Mac.

10* of 5 😉 (though, I gotta admit, I didn’t test the Mixtrack, but I think the heavy metal jacket of the Denon will appeal to you as well). So now I’ve managed to narrow it down to the Denon, an Itch, or mybe the Reloop.
Don’t suppose you tried any of these Papa?

??
Denon is a brand that makes various controllers.
Itch is a software, not a controller
Reloop is a brand that makes several controllersCould you narrow the selection a bit? Then we will be able to help/suggest.

Torn between that or the Twitch. Don’t suppose you tried that one?

Sorry, I did not – the reason is, I wanted a really, really good, easy accessible audio interface, and I wanted a symmetric controller setup, because I don’t like button search orgies. The Denon offers all that, and you feel there is more thought behind the scenes going on than obvious (placing of button & knobs and so on), which you will get to know once you use it. And I don’t really dig those touch strip hype-a-delic, I’m a jog wheel guy. With big hands. So no touch strips for me.
Build quality’s excellent, too. So try for yourself, and if you want some touch-sensitive pads etc. (which the MC600 lacks) I’d recommend the Akai LPD8 (though, of course there might be better-featured units out there).Hope I could help 😉

MemberAsk a dj friend of yours if they have a DJ program like traktor on a CD, and if you may install it on your computer, that way you’ll spare money on program.
In your case, I would chose between these 3 options:
Mixtrack Pro is a decent beginners device. This is usefull if you don’t want to invest a lot and want to look if djing is for you.
Traktor s2, is a very good controller. Appart from many features, it’s easy to use, professional and comes with a perfect program (traktor pro 2) and has a very good audio quality. I’m also guessing that in the near future, Native Instruments will release the Kontrol X2 which could be attached to your S2 controller which will allow you to use pads to cross the thin line between mixing and producing music. The Traktor S2 is at the expensive extreme edge of being affordable though.
The Novation Twitch is a cool thing. It allows you to do more than the standard starter controller, it’s creative, comes with traktor, professional while it is affordable. It only has no jogs. I would call this the midway.
A beginners controller is good if you still don’t know if DJing is for you, and you don’t want to invest a lot. The risk is that these controllers might bore you easily after you found out how it works, which may cause you to eager for a better controller or cause you to quit DJing.
Or you can spend more money for the S2, which is also easy to learn on, but which is also usefull if you want to go beyond the beginners phase. It will cost you more money, but because of the reasons above, you will be more invested and involved.
Or you can chose the midway and go for the Twitch. Not long ago I had to make the kind of same decision as you have to do. In the end, I went the expensive way and chose for the Traktor Kontrol S4. I don’t regret it.

MemberNo, your advice is still really helpful in terms of knowing what the other controllers do should I want to upgrade/buy more in future! Thanks 🙂
