I have recorded live from Traktor in the past. After the recording I followed the steps outlined in the DDJT mixtape course (I bought it) to guide me through the mixdown process. I have recently purchased ableton and intend to use it for DJ mixes and podcasts. I would be interested to hear other people’s experiences with ableton.

I use Audacity on a second computer as a recorder. I also do any necessary edits, plus drop in all the mic spots and/or drops with Audacity. Easy to use (once you get used to a couple of things) and works well.

I use Sony Acid for programmed studio mixes & Traktor/CDJ’s Or Technics 1200’s for live. Old I know, but still works.

I record in Traktor, chop it up into individual tracks and normalize it all in Audition and then burn to CD, remembering to remove the 2 second gap between each track.

If I make a mistake during the mix I start again. Or not, depends how bad a foul up it is.

I just record live from Serato. Less focus on software the better. I want to think of nothing but the music and how it flows together.

I record in Traktor, then edit and polish in Sound Forge.

I usually test out my mixes with Serato and see what works well. I then put the mix together in Ableton Live. I master the mix then in Adobe Audition, if its a podcast and I have a few voiceovers / jingles to drop in I do that in Audition, mixdown and then master.

I’d highly recommend the DDJT course on this, very informative.
Personally I record in Serato DJ then apply any edits, processing etc. in Audacity.
Audacity can also help you convert your recorded .wav file to .mp3 for uploading to Mixcloud etc, you just need to download one extra file.
It seems like the cleanest solution to me, I’d rather worry about my mixes than about software so keeping it simple works for me.

I don’t tend to create mixtapes as such – the kind of DJing I do doesn’t require it – but I do all my audio editing, remixing, mashups etc.. in Logic Pro – and I would do mixtapes in that if I was to do one..
