He was using two Launchpads and some kind of keyboard from my view of it. And because alot of DJ’s use alternate midi controllers with production software that have a performance mode like Ableton or FL studio. This way they can make a more customized set with their own unique playing style. Since both devices are midi compatible he could map the buttons/keys to do almost anything. Or if he was using Ableton live, he can play notes with the keyboard(synth, drums, piano, guitar etc.) while launching clips and samples using the launchpads. I respect them for doing this because it shows that they’re thinking out of the box and they’re is no hiding in this set-up because its literally like playing a live instrument. (Unless ofcourse they played a pre recorded set, in which case that’s bad)

Upon further inspection of the photo, I just realized that both launchpads are separate from each other. IN this way, both artists can do a song on the fly while collaborating. For example, the one on the left could be taking the melody of the song, hence why he has the keyboard, which the one on the right is controlling drum kits and basslines. The possibilities are endless and i wish I was there to witness this set live 🙂 it must have been truly something.

Some Focusrite soundcard (cannot make out the model), Launchpads and those new and upcoming japanese mini usb-keyboards of which the name always gets lost in my head.

Are Launch pads and Launch controls, a Fireface UCX audio interface, Ableton live 9, and the keyboard is a Akai LPK25. 😉
