Very simple answer. The 25s are and have been the mainstay in live sound, studio recording and DJ Booth. They are, as opposed to what the article says, rather neutral in sound, hence the popularity in studio’s where you want as little coloring as possible. So if the bass sounds heavy on the 25s, then your mix is bass heavy.
They are not just sturdy, but indestructible. It’s not uncommon to see people who have been using them for 10+ years. Especially for those that care about quality and not flashy looks. There is an aluminum anniversary edition now that I would recommend. Not only do the cups feels sligtly sturdier still, they look a lot better too 🙂
Still thinking about how I can dispose of my “old” 25s to buy the alu’s 😀
At the dancefair I tried out the over the ear HD8DJ which are tuned a bit more towards DJ work and they felt really solid, metal joint for the cups, metal in the headband, easily interchangeable/replaceable cable. Abiut the same price as the alu 25s. I would say if you only DJ it’s a toss up based on personal taste. If you produce too, my money would still be on the 25s.
