These are my favorite closed back headphones in that price range. Much better than ATH-m50s. Otherwise for DJing I’d go for the cheaper Sony 7506. But yeah, if I had the money HD-25s II.

Very simple answer. The 25s are and have been the mainstay in live sound, studio recording and DJ Booth. They are, as opposed to what the article says, rather neutral in sound, hence the popularity in studio’s where you want as little coloring as possible. So if the bass sounds heavy on the 25s, then your mix is bass heavy.

They are not just sturdy, but indestructible. It’s not uncommon to see people who have been using them for 10+ years. Especially for those that care about quality and not flashy looks. There is an aluminum anniversary edition now that I would recommend. Not only do the cups feels sligtly sturdier still, they look a lot better too 🙂

Still thinking about how I can dispose of my “old” 25s to buy the alu’s 😀

At the dancefair I tried out the over the ear HD8DJ which are tuned a bit more towards DJ work and they felt really solid, metal joint for the cups, metal in the headband, easily interchangeable/replaceable cable. Abiut the same price as the alu 25s. I would say if you only DJ it’s a toss up based on personal taste. If you produce too, my money would still be on the 25s.

I’m in torn between the 25s and v-moda crossfade LP2, but alas the 25s is way too expensive for me right now, i prolly settle with the LP2,

The 25s are still the best headphones in the world.

I normally wouldn’t buy expensive headphones (my current headphones are a pair of Sony MDR-570, actually a surprisingly good pair of cheap headphones, mainly got those though cause they are cheap and portable, so i can use them all day, plus i use them as i am a bedroom DJ.

However, Ravine said it himself “They’re a bit on the expensive side but they’ll last you forever”. Unlike Beats… Fun fact, Monster are an evil company that supported SOPA and tried to convince you their super-expensive HDMI cable was better than the cheap ones in poundland. Oh, and they also sued a company called “Monster Mini Golf” for harming their trademark

For me I have Sony 7506 to DJ with (About $130 here) and AKG K240 MK II for producing. I think for the money and application the 7506 can’t be beat. Only downside for me is I’m use to the ultra light AKGs and I find wearing heavier headphones for extended periods fatiguing.

I am with you that the AKG are decent studio headphones (sadly unusable for DJing as they are too open and the headband is really only working with both cups on), but the Sony 7506 are highly overrated and even the much cheaper Zomo HD headphones blow them out of the water.
