Memberstu2110, post: 2219 wrote: So heres my headphone story. Found a bag today at my house that id not seen before. Inside this bag are a pair of brand new beats by dre solo HD headphones. Now its my birthday in a couple of days. So im guessing there for me off my very generous girlfriend. Must also add im very shocked shes got me anything to do with music as since i got into this couple of months ago she reckons i have a new love….. She may be correct haha! Anyway i decided to have a look at reviews and see if they are any good for djing. And iv read really mixed reviews. Some saying there basicly cr*p for djing and some saying there pretty decent. But iv found that maybe alot of people are hateing them because of the fact there “mainstream” and i do accept there probably overpriced. Now do i risk an ear bashing and ask if maybe she could swap them for some others? Or are they actully ok? Does anyone have any thoughts on my problem? I am sure shes seen them in the shop and because of the price she thinks they are vey good headphones and a great present for someone whos starting to really get into djing.
The beats aren’t necessarily bad headphones, they’re just insanely overpriced. You can get the same sound and construction quality from much cheaper headphones. That is the main gripe everyone has with them.
This is also a good argument to get your girlfriend to change her mind about the gift. Tell her you read online that these are overpriced and a cheaper pair would’ve done the job if you want to save her a bit of cash or just go with the flow and thank her for the nice gift!July 2, 2011 at 3:10 am #2375DJ Peixinho
MemberI own and play with a cheese ones of an fashion headphones brand, Urbanz Block in white, but for a while I played with a pair of Skullcandy Lowrider in White/Metallic Purple and a cheapy pair of Phillips SHP1900/10.
I would reccomend you the AKG K518, they are great for its pressure and have a great collection of colours to choose from.

2. What headphones do you DJ with? The HP-1000s are good headphones to DJ with as well as studio use. They isolate well and extended use doesn’t give me ear fatigue. The HP-700s are just okay for practice, but I don’t recommend them to play out. The just don’t isolate very well.
3. Could you reccomend me any headphones? I’ve heard that the AIAIAI TMA 1 headphones are really good. Might have to save up for a pair.July 4, 2011 at 12:57 am #2730Lew

Not bad for the price. Quite comfortable and quite deep bass. I use them for listening to my iPod as well as DJ-ing so that’s a good thing.

ParticipantI use Sennheiser HD590 – they are really hi-fi cans but they are very comfortable to wear for long periods, the pads are made from very nice soft velvety material and surround the ear – so no pressure and no sweaty ear syndrome. On the downside they are very leaky as they are open back type, so little isolation. As they are getting very worn I’m thinking of getting either Allen and Heath Xone 53 or sony mdr 7506’s. Anyone who has had both your views on comparison are welcome.

ParticipantI use Denon DNHP-1000s, a recent purchase after using a cheapo pair of sennheisers. Absolutely the best I’ve used, they give a great sound and fit great on the ear. Highly recommended.
