Sennheiser HD 25 SP, I love them. Don’t think I’d move to another brand. Would really like the HD 25’s but they’re a bit too pricey for me…

Currently using a pair of SONY MDR-V500s for reference and gigging. Light, robust and fold up small.
Formerely had a pair of Citronics which were useless – they broke on both sides at the weak point where the headband joins the ear-piece. This section is metal on the Sonys.
Use Sennheiser earbuds but have lost one of the rubber ear-pieces! Doh!

When I first started I had a pair of Numark HF125’s and I bought me a set of SkullCandy Hesh cans.. Theyre pretty solid, aside from the build quality. I get decent sound from the 50mm drivers and the clarity in sound is great enough for leisure listening and not too distracting, as I find the Beats by Dre to be.. I dont think Ive been around, headphone-wise to make any recommendations yet 🙂

SennheiserHD25-1 II’s. Recently I’ve had Ultrosone Pro 650’s and Sony MDR 7506’s and the Senn’s win hands down!

1. What headphones do you own? Sennheiser HD25-1-II, Sennheiser HD-215, Sony MDR-V300, Sony DR-BT101 (all for slightly different purposes)
2. What headphones do you DJ with? (can be multiple) Sennheiser HD25-1-II
3. Could you reccomend me any headphones? I less than three my Senny’s. I had a backup pair of Technics RPDJ-1210’s which I’d also recommend – mine got stolen on a night out 🙁 I’ve also owned Pioneer HDJ-1000’s, which were nice for using with my iPod, but broke so I wouldn’t recommend for DJing with, and Sony MDR-V500 which were kind of middle-of-the-road (but, again, broke) for all uses.

To sum up: Sennheiser HD25-1-II. You won’t be sorry.

Sennheiser HD-25-1 II or Technics RP-DH1200… I’ve used both for gigs and each have their strengths. Noise isolation and sound quality is crazy good on the HD-25 II, but they can get a little uncomfortable after a while. The Technics fit really comfortably and are easy to maneuver. Not as good sound-wise as the HD-25, but better than a lot of other headphones on the market. You could usually find a used pair for around 50-70 bucks.

skullcandy skullcrushers 😳 I got em for super cheap before djing would have been a consideration. They came with a 1/4 jack adapter, so hey why not. I hate the battery pack, and the cord gets tangled. But they do alright. I’m looking to upgrade, but again money is tight.

So heres my headphone story. Found a bag today at my house that id not seen before. Inside this bag are a pair of brand new beats by dre solo HD headphones. Now its my birthday in a couple of days. So im guessing there for me off my very generous girlfriend. Must also add im very shocked shes got me anything to do with music as since i got into this couple of months ago she reckons i have a new love….. She may be correct haha! Anyway i decided to have a look at reviews and see if they are any good for djing. And iv read really mixed reviews. Some saying there basicly cr*p for djing and some saying there pretty decent. But iv found that maybe alot of people are hateing them because of the fact there “mainstream” and i do accept there probably overpriced. Now do i risk an ear bashing and ask if maybe she could swap them for some others? Or are they actully ok? Does anyone have any thoughts on my problem? I am sure shes seen them in the shop and because of the price she thinks they are vey good headphones and a great present for someone whos starting to really get into djing.

It really depends how you’ll be using them. As a beginner they’ll be fine, but they wouldn’t last long in a professional environment.

I think the main issues with the Beats if I remember correctly were isolation, sound quality and construction.

Isolation shouldnt be a problem if you’re just practicing at home, as levels there won’t be as loud as a club or even mobile set-up. As for sound quality, the woofers are designed for hi-fi listening not the flat response required for DJing (or studio mixing). But again this should be fine as you’re not using a huge club sound system on which every EQ tweak makes a difference.

My advice would be give your missus a huge kiss and thank her for the ‘phones! 😉

I use the sony MDR-7506 and while they are beastly and do a fairly decent job of isolation, I find the bass to be lacking a bit. That being said for less than $100 you can’t really go wrong. I would love a pair of HDJ-2000s, I’ve used them and they are definitely the Cadillac of cans.
