    Well depends on the gym.
I had only a few special occasions in a gym and one is waaaaaay back in the day with mainly bodybuilders in the gym. So the consensus back then was: Play Heavy Metal.

Now recently I had a gig in a new and modern gym, where you have 50:50 men and women who are mostly “lifestyler” towards body shaping, then raw weight lifters. They seem to enjoy most the typically dancy electro pop stuff. So basically Top40 dance stuff, with some 90s dance etc. mixed in.

Depends what I’m in the mood for. The gym is often where I listen back to my mixes and that gets me pretty pumped up. It’s usually techno, d&b or some serious heavy metal. My gym is awful for music, the most generic top 40, Justin Bieber, Carly Rae whatever crap.

Depends. If it’s a lifting day, no cardio, metal and old school punk. Pennywise and Rancid are 2 of my favorites.

If it’s crappy weather outside and I have to run on the treadmill (which let’s face it is one of the most boring things known to man) I find I get it through it a lot faster with a Diesleboy Mix. If I have to be a hamster on a wheel, d&B/jungle all the way. I play a game with myself to see if I can spot the transitions between tracks. Before I know it my 45 minutes is up.

I listen to D&B and drum step when I run (I’m more of a metronomic runner) and the beats are just the right in time with my pace. When I lift, its usually whatever new music I’m trying to memorize or familiarize myself with.

I go on Beatport Pro and using the by-default autoplay feature I review all the tracks I haven’t already heard in whatever genre I’m interested in. It’s a perfect time for listening to stuff and flagging songs I’ll want to download (yea, beatport takes all my ducats these days)
