For that budget,
I would spend slightly less on the laptop – have a look at second hand models/Refurbished stores from the manufacturer (I got mine from the Dell Outlet at half it’s list price in new condition…). Look to spend around £320 here to give you more money later on..
I would then spend about £140 on a Numark Mixtrack Pro 2 (Or a Denon MC2000 or a Pioneer DDJ-SB)
Leaving £140 for software and headphones.
You can get a pair of (reviewed today!) Reloop RHP-15 headphones for around £50 – these will last and not break after a year..
And then you are onto software.
Traktor is around £90
Serato is around $99 USD which is £65
Cross DJ is $49 USD which is £33
Virtual DJ is either $19 a month subscription (£13) or $299 for the infinite licence (£194)
Now, all of these are affordable under your budget but it is important to pick the correct software for you rather than go on price. I tried all of them out and decided on VDJ for me. So I bought it.. It was hard spending that amount of money on software but I recognized it was the best one for me.
For you though, I would count VDJ out on cost terms and then download the demo’s of the other 3 to decide which is best for you.
(Note, if you decide traktor then you should buy NI hardware to go with it rather than the controllers mentioned above).
