ParticipantAfter leaving DJing for family/work life and then getting back in to it I started off with a Vestax VCI 100 and Traktor. I then upgrade the firmware with DJTT speacial which made it one of the best bits of kit I ever used. However, I wanted a multi format platform to cover myself should the software or laptop have a glitch so I got a pair of Radius 3000 a DDM4000 (both midi) and today I’m using CDJ900’s with a DJM700, a RMX1000 and RekordBox.

MemberStarted out with 2 x Technics SL1210 Mk2s and a Gemini mixer.
Then bought a pair of CDJ100s – was so bowled over by DJing with CDs that I upgraded them to a pair of CDJ800s.
Since then have moved to Traktor + Macbook Pro + Allen & Heath K2 – all internal mixing with Sync enabled (!)

KeymasterStarted with some cheap “house modded” turntables with a sad rotary knob for pitch control and a 2 channel DJ mixer with no real company name on it ….
I then went through so much gear I cannot actually remember most stuff 😛October 19, 2012 at 11:24 am #1013997Helge Sverre

KeymasterNot really, I lost most of my photos (no digital back then) from that time…
Currently I use a Terminal Mix 4 by Reloop, with a MidiFighter and VDJ Pro. However I am very likely to convert to Serato DJ when it is available.

ParticipantMy very first deck was made from a radiogram. We’d take the record player out and box it up. 1 deck DJing was about quick changing without a spindle, an art in itself. Custom built pre-amp and custom built Valve slave amp. Home made twin 18″s. I don’t miss carrying that stuff up a flight of stairs.

ParticipantStarted on a pair of Terralec belt drive decks with a cheap mixer in ’94, upgraded to my sl1200’s with an Intimidation Blue mixer in ’97, upgraded the mixer to a Vestax PMC35 Pro a few years after that. By that time I was using CD’s and vinyl to gig with, and in 2009 I watched a bloke DJ on Technics decks with Traktor and that was me sold. The biggest pain in the arse was ripping my entire CD collection to MP3, took me the summer of ’09 to do it.

MemberIll just answer you coz of the kitten pic 😛
I started with an HP Probook 4530s as laptop, the Monster Beats Studio by Dr Dre (Already had them before Djing and just used them), no monitor speakers (used headphones to record sets in my bedroom and waverided with no headphone at gigs and an Hercules Mp3 E2 as a controller.
Now, the laptop is the same, the headphones also remained the same (even if they arent real monitors y think they sound awesome and the sound reduction is unmatchable), I got a Traktor Audio 2 soundcard (rarely use it, bought before the new controller as the Hercules didnt have a soundcard included) and the Denon MC3000 as a controller.October 19, 2012 at 4:56 pm #1014020Michael Lawrence
ParticipantI started off with the first vestax spin and used djay algorithm. Then bought a vesrax pad one for finger drumming. Thats as far as it went lol.
I now have the S2 and F1 using Traktor. Got the Maschine Mikro for production and a KA6 as my sound card. KRK Rokit 5’s, Crane Stand Pro and Moda Cross Fade LP 2’s.
I think I am good for now….the last piece of gear I would get would probably be a midi keyboard but not for a while. Still so much to learn with the NI gear.

MemberI never bought controllers- started out with good ol’ turntables and a CD player. First I bought Stanton Str8-60 with Gemini PS-525 mixer, then bought a CDJ-100s to play around with CDs for a bit. Then I sold both decks and got a Str8-100 and a Technics 1210 MK2 and replaced the bad pitch fader with a click-free MK5 variety. I also put blue LEDs on it.
Mixer-wise I upgraded to the Urei 1601-S soon after getting the newer decks. It was like going from a econo-box to an exotic racer in performance. But a few months later I decided to sell up to a Pioneer DJM-909, and bought Serato SL1 as well. Even though the sound of the 909 is a bit inferior, I much preferred its effects and rich set of options.
Then I faced a financial crunch and sold all of it…
Now I’m back into the game with used but good CDJ 400’s and DJM-300. I feel like sticking with CDs now, and plan to upgrade to CDJ-850s soon.
