    It’s a really neat genre. One of my favorites, actually. But it’s not really everyone’s thing.

    yeah I gotta say it really depends on the crowd – I mean what your primetime set genre is going to be like is a good indication of where you should start too – I gotta say I play one hole in the wall bar pretty often (drinks are free, I get a little cash and the bartender is pretty hot) and it stays dead for a great chunk of the night so all I’m really playing is downtempo bob your head type stuff – but it’ll change depending on who I see walk through the door possibly indie hip hop, some old soul and funk, maybe even some jazz classics if the right crowd comes through.

    The recent article about opening DJs does have a lot of good tips though for what your warm up set should be focused around.

    I was going to suggest soul/funk/disco/and some hip-hop tracks under 120bpm, but like others have said – it depends on your style and the audience your dealing with that night.

    Tunes from Thievery Corporation (downtempo) usually wind up in my warmup set.
