good headroom, good response, decent SPL’s (SPL is important! this is HOW LOUD they go, you want 90-110dB SPL at 10 feet)

From what i have heard the mackie 15″ thumps have pathetic SPL output which means they don’t get very loud before limiting……what is your budget…??

I have heard mackies and they are comparable to JBL 515XT
    here is a spiel from mackie… http://www.mackie.com/products/hdseries/pdf/HD_REAL_SPL.pdf
It’s a good educational read in how SPL is calculated.

I am a member of another dj forum….1 guy who i consider as being pro when it comes to amps/speakers and general PA systems posted on the forum that he owned mackie 15″ thumps and sold them because they had pathetic SPL output, something like 115db max and he always recommended the RCF ART 312a’s which he said were twice as loud as the thumps.

I have had Mackies, Peaveys, JBL and HK Audio and they all worked reasonably well. With the general rule: You always get what you pay for and yes 2000 bucks HK will sound better than 900 bucks Peaveys.

I disliked all Berhingers that I tried as they all colored the sound too much for me. However I have not tried them since 2 years and the newer ones at least get better reviews… so I might be biased.

I have the Behringer Eurolive 15″ and I love em. I know Behringer isnt the best company but I has actually super surprised with them. They are decently cheap and super loud. That’s what I would recommend; I have two of em and they boom. I havent hear much about the Mackies or American Audio
