Actually it was not Deadmau5 that was cought, it was Krawella.
Deadmau5 posted the foto on twitter as he was in the crowd looking at them.

Pre-recorded sets are as old as stage play. It is not only happening with DJs, I have seen concerts of superstar singers that were 100% playback. Hell if most of Britney Spears concerts were not playback she could barely breath jumping around all the time, nothing could have been heard….
The bigger the event or concert, the more likely it will be playback.

Agree with Terry_42, but … by the same token, you have to make it look good. And playing without a single cable in either CDJ or DJM is making it too darn obvious.

Those people are paying a lot of money to come see you, at least make an effort to be convincing.

Another question (kind of same thing)

How to deal with people playing playbacks??
I know 2 DJ’s who are playing playbacks at gigs/ soundclouds and getting creddit for something some1 else did or dat they have recorded in advance. Could post one obvious example here, if it’s okey?
And it really annoys me cause they are getting gigs I could have gotten instead.

The thing here is you cannot do much.
You can talk to managers and promoters and point out that it is “fake”, but it is always a slippery road, since you “are telling” and you are also telling them that they are stupid, since they did not discover it themselves. So reactions might be mixed.
I always liked the approach, that I tried to plant “requests” not directly to the DJ but to managers and promoters who actually can tell those guys or to someone close to the manager who would listen to me. Then they would for example ask for a change of pace or genre, so the DJ had to mix something in and divert from the playback. Most of the time they trainwreck it and when you do a loud enough “wow he is faking it” on the dancefloor a lot of people will go mad :O

I would have been on the bandwagon to bash on Krewella, but then I saw this:

Unless a camera looked at the decks (to see if they’re on/off) then I have to assume as the video shows that they were using the stage gear as midi controls.

Nice find D-Jam, I actually made the same mistake as Deadmau5 when I looked at the mixer I thought “yeah well the AC is plugged in but nothing else”, I never saw the USB cable. So yeah it could actually have been a working setup.

Hahaha! When Disclosure faked it, at least they had cables plugged in. But deadmau5 is the king of talking smack against other famous people. He dissed afrojack, Paris Hilton(who wouldn’t), Armin Van Buren, and of course Bieber. Not suprised to see another added to the list.

Oh, he also picked a fight with Porter Robinson and made fun of Martin Garrix. Nice guy isn’t he?
