KeymasterThanks for your feedback.
We actually are currently working on a private messaging system not only to us moderators but for all users to private message each other via the website system.
I cannot say how long it will take to implement, but it is the top of our list and one of the features that is around the corner for the next update of the site.So it is not only probable, it is a sure thing and we are actively in development of the feature.

ParticipantSounds good! I dig it.
One other thing, what about a timed edit feature for posts?
reason being for ‘changed my mind’ syndrome, or bad grammar/typo’s,
but also timed (say half an hr to a 3hr window) in order to discourage people from completely changing their posts due to a difference in opinion with another participant, in order to make themselves look better & things like that. sad that people do things like that I know; but trolls be trolls.March 20, 2014 at 11:25 am #2012825Terry_42
KeymasterVery good, I will look into that if a timed edit is possible and what we can do there.
Thanks again good idea, didn’t think of that one.

ModeratorI have thought about that (other forums have like half hour windows), but in light of the character of the DDJT forums, I figure it isn’t really an issue. What you are describing, Alchemy, is behaviour as seen on other forums. We try very hard to keep the mood here friendly, positive and constructive. So I don’t think we have encountered changed posts due to differences in opinions or people doing it to make them feel better and such. I actually dare say we don’t have the trolls you mention. It’s just not that kind of place.
Quite frankly, if it ever becomes such a place, I will resign immediately.
So, while I agree with this happening at other forums, I’d like to keep on believing that people find a safe haven here, where they can express whatever opinion they like. And while not everyone will agree or some may even disagree totally, all of it is done with the utmost respect.
On a practical side. If we were to entertain a timed period, I’d say half an hour would be fine to be able to change your post without having to state a reason (this should be enough to correct typo’s and such). After the half hour you should still be able to change the article, but only with a stated reason so everyone can see you changed it and the reason you gave for it.

Participant@vintage,
Its nice to know that your passionate about troll prevention. If an edit window doesn’t sit well with you, perhaps a spell check button? or a spell checker that highlights incorrectly spelt words with a red line under it as you type, ala word?
not sure if that’s practical or doable but would address the grammar problem prior to posting without the need for editable posts…
just suggestions 🙂Peace

Participantgreat stuff…. Chuck, you couldn’t abandon us in our time of need like that could you…. just banish the troll posts and put on a good tune to calm back down… 🙂 The people here on DDJT really are great and helpful and a good bunch, I don’t see that changing much as the people on here are all coming to DDJT to learn, not because the ‘know it all already’ and think they’re gonna be the coolest member of some elite niche forum like some other places on the web… I have many hobbies and love internet forums for researching real end user experiences with products and also gathering real insight into things… I know of the trolls you speak of, and even on forums where they are present, some forums are just sooooo dang cool that a few trolls can’t bring down the vibe… DDJT will be one of those if trolls ever come here, but for now I think we’re safe. I would wager that this site could turn a troll into a contributing productive member ! Keep shining folks, love all the new material and site improvements! Moonshadow
