Same rules apply.
I do get WHY you want it. You want to play sets that aren’t loads of poppy mainstream stuff. My only advice is to make sure you throw events for people, and not yourself and your DJ buddies. Played in too many events where it’s clear the crowd seems irrelevant to the DJs…as they all pound sets that bore the few people who showed up.
Find your crowd and go from there. In terms of capitol, you’ll have to find some means to pull it off. Warehouse raves happened because people wanted to break away from the club scene and take drugs freely.

ParticipantI’m all for it too, man. That, in my mind, is what dj-ing is all about. It sounds like we’re on the same page so get in touch with me if you want to try to implement something. I too can attest for the nasty attitudes of the other djs here but I’m sure there are still a few “purists” (I hate that word, but you know what I mean) around. First of all, what do you mean by “Warehouse Rave.” We all have that fantasy in our minds, but what do you mean specifically as far as crowd, music, etc.

DJing is a tough gig, simply because it requires a lot of work and time (and stress!) to be that extra step better.
I would love to play something like this, whether its paid or not. Something I’ve learned is that once you do an event (and you’ve done it well) promoters and organizers are more willing to throw you a bone (ie money) the next time. This is because they know they can trust you. In the end, I don’t DJ for the money, I DJ cause I love to do it.
OP:
I think that is a fantastic idea. If I was around you, I would be down to DJ it for free.
Ya, its gonna suck the first couple times. People might not show up, DJ’s might be pricks, or anything else. But once people hear about it, and once people go to it (and you do a good job), people are going to be much more willing to go or come back. Unfortunately in business, the startup is always gonna suck, but if you do it right it could be the greatest things your town has to offer.February 6, 2013 at 8:30 am #36250DJcRave
ParticipantI’ve valued everyone’s opinion and thank y’all very much for sharing with me! Yes, I know what I said about most of the local DJs here, my bad (we can all be a little self centered at times 😉 )
@Frosh by “warehouse rave” i mean everything there is to a “warehouse rave” from the secrecy of the location (which is hard as hell to find a location out here(i actually found the perfect spot then found out it was torn down 3 months ago)) to the generators powering 5-10k watts of pure bass(all genres).

ParticipantYeah…… DC has some fun in store for it. Wish I had more funds, I’d totally be down for making this happen everywhere I possibly could.

In Australia there are ocassionally raves literally out in the middle of nowhere in the bush, no advertising is done and people find out via word of mouth – These things get seriously crazy!

That’s how it was all done before the internet happened. Go here, wait for a guy with a green balloon. Don’t talk to him, just follow where he goes. There you’ll meet a man with blue shoes and a backpack, give him $10 get on the school bus.

ParticipantI say we all team up with locals and each do our own warehouse rave. You COULD make it legal but it kind of takes away from the fact of it being “underground”. I just caught word of a warehouse rave 3 hours from where I live where they made it legal. Rented out an “abandoned” warehouse and is throwing the event there. They hired 5-0 and are selling tickets to it. I guess it’s still that experience though….
