This is just One small Aspect of DJ’ing Mills; and if you have No Interest in ‘Scratching’; then just Keep Doing What You Are Doing’; and All Will Be Cool 😎
I Don’t Care what Anyone says to me; but; ‘Hey You Can Scratch – What Else Can You Do’ ?July 12, 2011 at 8:08 pm #3691Beatmaster Mills

I Don’t Care what Anyone says to me; but; ‘Hey You Can Scratch – What Else Can You Do’ ?Yeah, your right, I would love to learn but just don’t have the gear to really be able to get it down. Scratching on a mixtrack pro doesn’t seem to work out.

MemberJust had to share this too. Very different type of DJing and he IS my favourite DJ. The skill is more in the presentation, build up and atmosphere than technical skills…

ParticipantI’m also a big fan of Jeff Mills – I think I read/heard somewhere once that John Peel said he’d love to be able to DJ like Mils before he dies and be able to play guitar like someone who I’ve forgotten name of, I think John Squire.
Any way, heres a fav clip of Mills from his legendary set at Liquid Rooms Tokyo

What a Genius and Magician he is !!!
I just loved seeing those TEAC/Revox Reel To Reel Decks he had there 🙂 :);
I never heard John Peel Actually DJ before he Died; just his Radio Show; it would have been Interesting to hear how he could DJ after All Those Years spent as a Pioneer of Music 😎July 14, 2011 at 2:52 pm #3797Haroon

Interestingly I stayed in the same hotel as John once – I got in the same elevator (no I didn’t follow him in he was already in there when it opened on my floor), I tried desperately to come up with something cool to say to him, but came to the conclusion there is nothing you could say without coming off looking lame, so I stayed shtum 🙁

That is a Shame my Friend :(;
I can Understand your Situation Completely though; as some people just get So Big there is Nothing you can say to them; it is Interesting though because although he Must have had Masses of Friends; apart from his Family he could have been Quite a Lonely Man because of his Fame;
I would Love to hear that Fabric CD 😎July 14, 2011 at 9:03 pm #3812Rob Francis
MemberIf you want to hear a sad story, hear this:
In the run up to Sasha doing the Maida Vale Essential Mix, he ran a competition where you had to email in and give reasons why you deserve to win tickets. My girlfriend entered for me and wrote a really good email about how I looked after her after she had an operation.
The Essential Mix was on the same day as my birthday (22nd May) so I really wanted to win. Well, the mix came and went and I recorded the mix off the radio.
A few days later my girlfriend checked her email and found three emails from a guy at Excession (Sasha’s label back then) saying she had won and needed to get back in touch ASAP.
So when you hear Pete Tong say that the mix was performed live in front of a studio of friends and competition winners – I should have been there.
Moral of the story = check your emails regularly when you enter competitions!!!

MemberThis is Awful Rob; I am So Sorry :(;
It is a Long Time ago now; but did your Girlfriend keep the Email saying you Won the Competition ?
That would have been Something to have as a Fantastic Image; had she done so :);
But; I am So Pleased you Looked After Her After Her Operation; that is Lovely 😎July 15, 2011 at 3:58 pm #3856Rob Francis
MemberNo didn’t keep the email – it was too painful!
We’re married now though so I think I have forgiven her.July 17, 2011 at 7:27 am #3959Phil Morse
KeymasterMy friend is a roadie and has met dozens of big rock stars… But the only one he got tongue tied with was Rolf Harris!
