the iPhone 4S/5 and even 4 has pretty good video capture. Otherwise, get any Canon/Nikon with image stabilization lens and a camera that shoots 1080p or at least 720p. However, your enemy will be lack of lights in DJ booths causing you to shoot in high ISO and getting noise.

Now, if I were you I would ask a couple of friends to shoot you from multiple angles with smart phones. Then with Final Cut audio sync you could put together a cool multi cam track. Far better than a single-cam shot.

I would go for the best Sony HDX video cam you can get. Skip the ones with 3D and go for better lenses (some have Zeiss lenses). Sony has the best “automatic” modes and can tune to the lighting really OK and the mic is decent.
I even ditched my semi-pro Canon for one of the new Sonys as it is much lighter and actually can do the same (and actually accepts the same expansion slot microphones).

That or a Flip Cam. $99, durable, and good video

Video is tough. You’ll need to work with the lights guy to ease up on the fog and raise the house lights a bit to see things.

With a normal camera, one trick is to use a diffuser to soften the flash.
