No guarantees I am afraid. Especially with Windows there are just too many potential gear combinations that it’s impossible to say if something will work 100%. Even on the Apple side of things I’ve been hearing some Traktor problems recently.

That said, USB3.x is backward compatible and should work. These are official design specs and are valid for any USB 2.x device. Clearly there will be always cases of some kind of incompatibility, just not possible to predict for which gear. I have not heard of any specific generic problem in that area though. Then again, I don’t hear everything 😀

Not sure why you’d want to go back to Win7. I am no great advocate of upgrading OS at the first opportunity, but it seems Windows 10 is now stable. For sound I would personally always try using Asio4All drivers rather than the factory ones, but that is just my personal choice.

One thing that you can always try is using a powered USB 2 hub, that way your gear (audio interface, controller) “sees” a USB 2 connection.

If it’s a Win 10 designed machine, use Win 10. Downgrading back to 7 presents exactly the same risk others complain about when upgrading – compatibility with a different OS. People often forget that works in both directions.

I had a lot of trouble with early USB 3.0 ports on an older machine, but my last three laptops have all been fine so I think most of the 3.0 issues are in the past. If you are really concerned about it, plug your gear into a 2.0 hub and run that to the laptop – at least your minimizing your exposure then.

Do not use Asio4All instead of the manufacturer provided ASIO drivers. Asio4All is not a real ASIO driver and can present all kinds of issues between your software and hardware. That is less important on the production side, but can be show ending on the DJ side. Just make sure you’ve got your hands on the latest drivers for each piece of hardware and you should be good to go.

As with any new laptop – take the time to wipe any bloatware installed on it. Some brands are worse that others for this.

    Good luck!

My machine has USB 2 and USB 3 ports and my Denon MC6000 runs happily off either. I’ve recently had a problem where my machine updated itself to Win 10 (I posted for Help). A clean Win 10 install sorted the issues and runs VDJ Pro 8 & the Denon perfectly now. My humble opinion would be if the new machine comes with 10 don’t try and run an older version of Windows on it. Just a gut feel and not backed up by technical knowledge I’m afraid, just been a Windows users for too many years to mention. Good luck
