Well if you can stretch another $50, Ni have dropped the price of the S2 to $450 USD but only to the end of the month.

ParticipantAs I said, everything costs much more here and I can’t order because I’ll have 33% taxes.. The S2 costs 670$ here.

ParticipantI’m in the same boat, in a way, as the original poster regarding the Denon v. Traktor.
In the end, I am pretty sold on the Denon. I have big hands, but I think I can work around it. I’ll have to, since it comes with a flight deck case that is kind of cramped at the top.
Although I am a newb, I base this decision on a few things:
1) It can function as a standalone mixer
2) If the fit hits the shan, you are not stuck with a rather expensive piece of plastic and awkward moment
3) I can plug in CDJs. That’s key, since I want to learn how they work. Not so much that I care, but the clubs around here are pretty pissy about only using CDJ 1000s. The one club I frequent most is very open about BYOG, but I think it’s important to learn how to use the godverdomme things.
4) It is metal, and I have a tendency to ride roughshod on electronicsHowever, I noticed that the audio rate is at 16 and not 24. I have a Numark DJ/IO that is lying around, but I don’t know if plugging the mixer in to it for recording mixes will actually do any good (not sure if external card is just going to output at 16 regardless of what you hook it up to). Sound quality is key.
I don’t know shoot from shi about Timecode yet, so I don’t know if I would really need to use it much if I chose to use this setup with some CDJs at home. My goal is to mimic a club setup in the end, so I can practice the general feel. The 6000 does not do this, so I guess I would have to buy something like a Audio 6 or 8 card to do this?
I hope this is not a threadjack, and I truly appreciate Adam for posting this. Maybe my thought process might make sense to you?
Anybody that can clarify my questions would be appreciated.

ParticipantFrom the manual of the MC6000:
“DA converter: 24 bit
USB audio output
4 Stereo (8 Monaural) 16 bit,48 kHz USB B”For the timecode question:
Yes as the MC6000 works as any stand alone mixer you will have to get something like NI Audio 6 or 8 for the timecode to work. And at last, The soundquality on the MC6000 is very very good!
Try it out in a store and compare with any other and you will hear for yourself!

I am from Israel. I think I’ll order from US because with the 33% taxes it’s even cheaper than here. I narrowed to these 3:
VCI 100
Kontrol S2
MC3000I am looking for a big pitch control, good control on loops, more than 2 effects and nice jog wheels.
BTW
What is Midi Fighter exactly? I didn’t understand how to use it with effects and why is it good with a controller? Thanks!

I think you have made a Denon fanboy out of me. That has seriously helped me out.
It does not sound like I would really need to use the I/O to up to 24 then for recording a mix. I could sell it for cash towards a Traktor card later, or maybe keep it laying around for the odd party/scenario where it’s just me, my laptop, the house mixer/PA and my need for a sound card (low end Toshiba laptop). I’m in no particular hurry to have to use timecode if it won’t be overly necessary. I did get a great offer for some used CDJ 400s if I want to go ahead and pull the trigger.
I would really only need the timecode function if I wanted to hit certain hot cues, samples and loops on A CD that I wanted to use pre-set from my software/controller mapping v. syncing up by using jogweels and cue button/features on the CDJ, right?

Makes sense. Some people like coke, some people like pepsi. Always good to get different takes.

Some clarification:
The only time you will need an “extra” soundcard is if you want to use timecode (for rotating platters or CDJs that does not have MIDI) For extra MIDI you will not need any more soundcard than the one in the MC3000!
You can connect 2x CD players to the MC3000 and mix them with a knob 1 2 if you want to play audio CDs
Or you can connect extra MIDI divices simultainusly to your laptop for extra knobs and buttons. As I think it is CDJ400 for example can be connected to MC3000 and play from audio CD or USB.
CDJ400 can also be connected as MIDI device to the laptop for extra knobs and buttons (but you will have to map it by hand)And welcome to the Denon fanclub 😉

ParticipantI would also add to that s4 argument that IMO the MC6000 is the better chice:

Participant… Okay I think I’ll go with S2 because it’s the cheapest.. But I didn’t find a place where they sell it for 300$?
Also I found MC3000 and VCI 100 for 500$ and 600$, is there any place they are cheaper?BTW
What is Midi Fighter exactly? I didn’t understand how to use it with effects and why is it good with a controller? Thanks!

The S2 is a great choice, great offer at the moment as well, you wont go wrong with that.
Midi Fighter is just another MIDI controller. Search YouTube for demo videos. It is normally used in conjunction with your “regular” controller and then allows you even more control over Traktor than you would get with just your controller alone. It is particularly good for cue point juggling, although is often used for much more.

Not the best choice for everyone though

Thanks. The soundcard argument was basically a concern that I would not get true 24 sound when trying to record my mixes, mashups, what have you. And that I might need one for timecoding at a later point. The DJ/IO, obviously, is actually very good for what it is. But not good enough to handle the task. I can trade it in for credit at a store towards a soundcard that would handle it, or I can keep it around for emergencies.
Thanks for clarification on the Timecode and how to wire things up on the Denon. The timecode thing, for now, is moreso of an ‘all cross that bridge when I get to it’ kind of thing. But since it was/is confusing, your information was really helpful wade through the muck.
I officially got my Denon fanclub membership card today. I went with the 6000. I cannot wait to drive her!
