ParticipantIt seems like you are ready to move on from the Mixtrack Pro. Since many people who are looking to get into DJ are on the hunt for them, the resale value isn’t too bad. You should be able to get about $200 I would think.
The NS6 has a mapping for Traktor, but from what I heard its not the best. One of the higlights of the NS6 is the resolution on the jog wheels, but I believe this is compromised when mapping to traktor.
If you want the best integration for Traktor in a control go with the S4 or look into the Denon units.
If you really like the build quality of the NS6 and want to go with Traktor look in to the Numark 4trak (but it will probably break the bank as it is brand new)
I hope this helps.

Getting an S2, because of the crazy deal on it lately (either this site, or djtechtools has them for about $400 with a bunch of perks). But, I feel than what they cut from the S4 for the S2 is what I wanted; the sampling, filters, and overall interface. Is it just simply redundant to go to another two deck controller at this point?
How about getting the S2 for now until you get comfortable with it, then get the new Kontrol F1 for sample/loops later?
IIRC, in Phil’s S2 review on Youtube he also says the gain knobs on the S2 can be doubled as the filter knobs with the shift key. Or maybe you can consider throwing in a cheap knob controller (NanoKontrol or Nocturn) for filters and other things.
Obviously S4 has it all in one box so you should definitely go for it if it fits your needs. But it is almost 2x the price of an S2. There are also a number of other cheaper 4-deck controllers that came out @ NAMM 2012 too (Numark 4trak, Hercule 4set, Reloop Terminal Mix 4, to name a few).

ParticipantWell the NS6 is one of the best units you can get for ITCH. But for Traktor it is no good at all for that money, because of the layout taht is perfect for ITCH.
The S4 is a good choice but you should really take a close look at the Denon MC6000 also as IMO it offers more than S4.
Denon MC6000 has a couple of things that the S4 lacks.
You should also look at the S2 and compare it to the MC3000.

ParticipantI got a brand new Numark N4 for $500 and it’s been great for me so far– 4 deck control, cues, sampling, and it’s relatively durable. It’s got Traktor Pro 2 mapping as well although I can’t comment on how it is as I’m not yet a Traktor user. If you can get a great deal on an S2 though, you may just want to go with goofrider’s recomendation and use the money saved to get a Kontrol F1 or the like (but of course you won’t have the four-track control). I’ve had absolutely no problems with the N4 though.

MemberThanks for all the great feedback!!
Well, the only real reason I am hesitant about an S2 is that I will outgrow it too fast, and that going from a2 deck mixer, too a slightly more advanced 2 deck mixer is just a waste of money. And my budget for this kind of stuff is very limited, so I thought that getting more of an endgame controller would be a better option in the long run.
As for selling the Mixtrack Pro, I think I’ll only be able to get like 150$ for it at best, so many are for sale on the TechTools forum. The Low EQ knobs are really getting beat. And if I tap the side of Mixtrack, it activates pitch bend for a split second.
So say I sell the mixtrack, get the S2 for 400. I essentially spent 250$, which isn’t TOO much, but my main question still nags at me, is it necessary/worthwhile to upgrade to an S2 and not an advanced 4 deck mixer.
On another note, how easy is it to switch between cues and samples on the S2? The idea of having to switch sounds really awful…

MemberI am in a similar situation to you.
Im thinking about an s2 but worried, like you are that its not much of an upgrade from the mixtrack. However I think because of its good build quality and reliability and extra features then the mixtrack on the s2, albeit not that many, I could get a good few years use before I feel I need to upgrade. Also with the offer on at the moment, its hard to turn down.
Im not sure I want 4 decks to DJ with which would make the s4 not really worth the money for me.
Like previously suggested I would think about getting the Kontrol F1 or something similar to increase your options.

MemberI’m thinking of nabbing the S2 and getting the F! to go with it (read an article saying that the F1 is being made to compliment the S2 well).

ParticipantOther, enlighten me, my budget is at a maximum of about 700$ if I can sell the Mixtrack for like 150. I’m pretty new to all of this.
Thanks!
You can get an open-box DN-MC6000 from a certified Denon Dealer in the US for less than $700. I second DJ Hessler’s advice regarding the MC6000 over the S4. The solid feel of Denon will make you forget all other models you had in mind. I can send you a link if you want
Good Luck with your new investment 🙂
