I had a really nice reply (long too LOL). But for some reason it disappeared.
In essence it says to stick with the proven format:
1) Check your current workflow, then see what you want to change in order to get to your desired workflow
2) Check your current software, does it still match your workflow closely enough, or do you need to look at other software
3) Set a budget, don’t become a victim of the shiny buttons and blinking lights devil
4) Pick 2, max. 3 controllers that fit workflow, software and budget. Get some hands-on time with them if you can
5) Make your final choice
Changing software is not something to take lightly imho and VDJ supports just about any controller, so no reason there for switching either.
MTP2 to SB2 is not an update I think. It’s at the same level of quality/features. If you are only looking for something newer, the MTP3, SB2, Beat Mix 2 and MC2000 still make up our starter preference list.
For real upgrades you will have to dig deeper into your wallet. Terminal Mix 8, DDJ-SR/SX, MC4000, NV are all suitable options.
Finally, the SB2 is NOT a 4-channel controller. It’s a 4-DECK!, 2-channel controller. And personally I think that having only two channels to control 4 decks leads only to chaos. So apart from occassional use, don’t worry about 4-deck unless you intend to do lots with 4-decks, but even then you are better off with a 4-channel controller.
Hope that helps.
