Hi Dom, good question and simple answer, imho.

Unless there is a feature you really, really need (and I’d be curious what that would be looking at the available features on current controllers now) and that you know will be on a controller coming out in a few months (after being launched at a fair or tradeshow for example), then I’d wait a few months.

In all other cases, figure out what your workflow is, what software fits you and your workflow best. Determine budget and make a shortlist of the controllers that fit your software, workflow and budget. Try getting your hands on the shortlisted controllers to have an actual feel. Then pick the one you like best.

There will be new gear coming out every year or even sooner. But if you keep waiting for what MIGHT be in the next model, you’ll end up never buying anything.

My advice, go with the SX, which is a very nice a pro-level controller, and get cooking. One thing with new technology is that it usually has some odd bugs and “undocumented features”. I’d go with proven technology in your case.

    Hope that helps.

    Greetinx.

    Hi Greentinx,

Solid advice really, in terms of features I’m liking the look of touch sensitive knobs stolen from the NS7 2(ruled out on price) I’m in no real hurry to buy, what I have at present is fine for what I’m doing, the audio isn’t great and other little things, but it does mean I’m in not hurry to buy however yes I do agree, what is the right amount of time to wait?

    Cheers for the reply!

Yeah, those knobs are nice. Don’t know how it will hold up in actual practice and what, if any, drawbacks there are.

At the end of the day it’s just something that might make a small technical part of what you are doing easier, but it won’t make you a better DJ for having it or a worse one for not having it. In that sense those are the features that I would not postpone buying a new tool for my trade for. I’d just chalk it up to “my wishlist for my next controller”.

Hmm, sense is being spoken. I think that pretty much settles that, I may well leave it for a month just as a precautionary measure and gives me time to go out and do some touchy/feely sessions and make sure I’m enjoying what I’m about to buy and that I haven’t overlooked anything!

Cheers for the help man, really appreciated!
