KeymasterWell the Reloop Terminal Mix 4 works really well with VDJ. I used it for quite some time professionally with VDJ, before I switched to Serato DJ.
The mapping you can get free from the VDJ website (if you are a registered VDJ Pro user) and the TM4 comes with VDJ LE also nicely mapped. The mapping comes directly from reloop and has a very nice VDJ Skin going along with it.August 27, 2013 at 9:49 am #43546DJ Vintage
ModeratorAnd of course there is the MC3000

ParticipantWhat would you choose between Reloop Terminal Mix 4 and Traktor Kontrol S2 (S4 is out of stock) ?
I don’t like serato and vdj, i already own Traktor Pro 2August 27, 2013 at 11:18 am #43553Terry_42
KeymasterWell buying a Serato/VDJ controller for Traktor is not very smart…
However I would look into the Reloop Digital Jockey Remix for Traktor as it offers a bit more than the dated S2, however the jogwheels of the S2 might be a bit less latent (but that is an inherit Traktor problem, that its jogwheel mappings are bad for all controllers except NI).And of course there is the MC3000
Chuck, we were talking about an upgrade to the Mixtrack Pro, not a sidegrade 😛

The reloop seems good but it’s a lot bigger than what I’m looking for. It’s hard enough finding a bag the MTP can fit in lol. Are the older reloops any good?

KeymasterWell most “pro” controllers go in that size. The S4, Terminal Mix, VCI-400,… all about the same size and very easy to handle in a backbag. I carry my Terminal Mix 4 in a Timbuk2 messenger bag most of the time, together with a crane stand, Macbook and cables… quite easy.
Most other controllers I would not really call an upgrade and some more expensive ones are even bigger (DDJ-SX).August 27, 2013 at 11:36 am #43560dannyboyex@gmail.com

I don’t really need the extra stuff the big boys offer plus “lugaroundability” is a major factor. I’m just looking for something even slightly not as wide as the MTP. I appreciate the suggestions

KeymasterThe form factor of the MC3000 is cool, however it is heavy (as it is really well made from all metal) compared to a Mixtrack…
If you want to go really minimal I saw a DJ that played warmup for me a while back, go with a Faderfox 2-channel mixer and 2 midi fighters to control VDJ. However it was all custom mapped and skinned. So I guess that is also not what you want to go for.
If you want something like the Mixtrack just better made (aka all metal) you might even want to consider the MC-2000. It is Denon’s entry in the heavy metal construction, by still being very minimal and small in design. I had it in my hands only once, but it is built like a tank.
If the Terminal Mix 4 is too big, maybe the Terminal Mix 2 (smaller version but still 4 decks in VDJ Pro) might be OKish form factor wise.August 27, 2013 at 1:35 pm #43566DJ Vintage

Which really helps if you plan on transporting it in a backpack 🙂

MemberI was in the same spot as you almost a year ago, I had the MTP for a little under a month but then I got the controller I had my eye out for, an MC3000 and because of a time sensitive coupon I got it 25% off. Instead of VDJ I use Traktor.
I’ll vouch for the MC-3000, but if your at all in doubt about any controller I suggest you go to your local music store (mine are Sam Ash and Guitar Center). And see them in person, all metal construction and durability is what sold me on the Denon.

I’m a firm VDJ user since i do mobile work so it would have to be one i wouldn’t have to do a crazy amount of mapping (preferably none). I was looking at the DJTECH dragon 2 but i can’t find the size dimensions anywhere. I’m not looking for something in the ‘pro’ range. Thanks 😀
+1 for either Denon MC3000 (2 Channel) or Denon MC6000 (4 Channel). I currently own the MC6000 and love it.

Actually the gemini G2V that just got posted on the main site has caught my eye. weight isn’t an issue it’s more about volume and fitting existing bags. Thanks guys. the Denon does seem good and if i find one for a really good bargain i may scoop it up.

KeymasterI would tend towards the Terminal Mix 2 then, as you can still have 4 decks if needed, but have 2 decks for everything and all the sampler and F/X and looping controlls are accessible without the need for using the shift button…
I have not had my hands on the Gemini yet and their gear has mixed reputation (I like their new CDJ, but some other gear from them really is bad…)August 28, 2013 at 1:50 pm #43608dannyboyex@gmail.com
