Well if you are staying with Traktor, that kinda limits your options to NI gear, especially if you are worried about continued support from the manufacturer.

Leaving the good ole S4, S5, S8 or any of the modular setups.

Easiest advice ever. If you want jogs, looks like you’re getting an S4! Enjoy! 😀

Kidding aside, NI seems to be moving hard away from the concept of jogs so your options become extremely limited if you are sticking with Traktor. S2, S4, and I can’t think of anything else off the top of my head unless you want to invest in a full DVS setup.

yeah, I just was talking to some people, and the S4 Mk II is probably what I need to go for. I will sacrifice the jogs a little bit, but that iOS integration sealed the deal for me there. One of my friends has ripped through 3 S4s in a few years, though, has anyone else had serious reliability issues concerning the longevity of the S4?

Haven’t heard anything that made them stand out as particularly unreliable in the sense of longevity.

That being said, it depends in LARGE part on the way you treat your gear. If you toss your controller in your backpack 5 times a week without a decksaver and are very rough on it, clearly it will affect the unit more than when you have it built into a flightcase which it never leaves. I keep most of my cables hooked up when I store my controller. This prevents lots of plugging in and out of cables. Not that they can’t handle it … but … easier to replace a cable once in a while than a connector.

I HAVE seen DJ’s ripping their controller out of and stuffing it roughly back into a flimsy backpack, nearly tossing it in the booth, jamming in the cables (including their own headphones) and taking off playing. Those are the guys that will have issues with their gear in the space of a year or two (depending on their frequency of playing/practicing).
