    Hi
I bought a 2007 macbook secondhand, i paid it 600 € not , i had a pc before and i can say to you there is a great difference, i had no problems with my mac except the battery but it works with the power cord plugged in, traktor works very well and also ableton live.
Otherwise, contrary what we can think, laptop are very easy to repair by itself.
That’s the cheapest solution i know

If you restore your old Dell to factory then slim it down then maybe it will run without issues. Just don’t push it too hard and have a CD/ipod/record or something you can quickly play, should it fail…and don’t let that power cord come out!

I replaced the 500gb HDD with a 128bg SSD all for under $1000. Its been flawless and its quick as shit. If you never used an i7 with an ssd….. Is just so much faster. The only thing i don’t like about it is no usb 3.0. I run my programs on the ssd and took the internal drive out of the lap top and use that through an esata cable. But you can. Just put you music on USB drives and play off that. I have my USB buffer latency set at 1 and my max screen updats set at 60 updates per sec with out a hitch. Analyzing files is super quick with 8 processors. My old machine only had 2 and it took forever. You can’t beat the price for the spec’s. Let me know what you end up getting.

Thats a damn good deal. SSD seems to be the way to go to increase speed and performance…they are just so friggin expensive.

I’m not a mac fan, but i got my laptop from pcspecialist.co.uk (only good if you’re in the UK/Irl) but they’re phenomenal value, super quick, and super awesome. Can’t recommend them enough.

I paid like $179 for my 128gb Sandisk ssd. It’s only been about two months and I seen a 128gb ssd on newegg.com for like $119 less then a dollar a gig. I was totally blown away with the performance. I was told you could take an i3 machine with an ssd running windows and your other programs and it would be faster then an i7 with out an ssd. The having no moving parts is always good. One other thing no ones really sure about the long term reliability. But as long as you back up I’m ok with replacing my ssd every year or two. (I consider a computers life span at about 3 years and thats pushing it.)It’s worth it for the speed. In a few years all laptops will come with ssd and the price of memory will just keep going down.

SSD is a bit of a double edged sword…the price per mb is really not that great…the biggest reason why most people think the SSD is so much better is because the majority of mid-low end laptops used a 5400 rpm HD oppose to the 7200 rpm HD.

You will get a huge difference in processing going from a 5400 to a 7200, but the allegations that a core i3 w/SSD will be faster than an i7 is a total sham. Unless we are talking the highest end cor i3 vs the lowest core i7.

It directly relates to what type of work you are doing…for something as simple as Digital Djing, you really wont notice a difference in playing out.

If you are going to a Buy a SSD…stick with the very reputible companies that make HDs, dont get HDs from : Kingston, Sandisk, Hitachi…stick with higher end HDs from companies like Seagate, and Western Digital is okay but not the greatest…Personally i only buy Seagate HDs as they have been the best i have ever used…bar none

SSDs from OCZ are by far the best I have every used 😉
It is also not only a choice to go for SSD because of value or speed. For DJing a normal HD is enough, the fact that there are no moving parts is what makes SSDs so nice.

    Buy a used mac 🙂

I play with late ’08 macbook white with itch and have no problems whatsoever. Itch is a lot heavier than traktor in my experience so you should be fine. These things can be taken with ya with €400.
