Trying to figure out the right samples

Depends on the DAW you are using. In ableton its great because It allows you to take a full song, take a part you like and create your own sample with it. Which is what you are trying to achieve, most published and mastered tracks won’t have samples that sound anything like what they have because it is their own original sound they have made up. You can get samples that have the same algorithim as the sample ie same instrument different melody but you most of the time if you want to get a sample that sounds like the original it would be best to take it from the original.
