First of all, there’s no possibility to run the X1 (mk1/mk2) into the ipad at the moment, only the Z1, S2/S4MK2 will do the trick.

I bought the Z1 as a backup, too. I find it more convenient than using only the iPad.

Although the Z1/X1 combo is pretty small, i would miss the jogwheels – but if you’re happy with two decks and sync everything, you’re good to go.

In your situation i would suggest the following:

Upgrade to an S2 MK2 and ditch (or not) the Z1, carrying only your S2, laptop and iPad around. This way you can swap out the Laptop with the iPad if your PC crashes and have pretty much the same functionality. You could even leave the Laptop at home, only using S2MK2 and your iPad. And you can always use your iPad only, with a splitter cable, as a Backup.

I have an S4MkI and always have the iPad & a splitter cable with me. I also have a Z1, which I use mostly for small gigs like partys under the sky, impromptu gigs and for having a portable DJ setup when i’m travelling and can’t go without some mixing 😉

    Hope it helps!

Honestly I do not think that iPad softwares are yet up to the challenge of real gigging. For a small house party or bedroom use yes, but I would not consider using such a setup professionally just yet.

Yes I hope the gap will close soon and we will be there soon, but for the time being I would stay with the S2 and my computer…

Stay tuned for all the exciting announcements that will prolly come in 2014 (we will be for our readers at Musikmesse 2014 again to bring you live updates of releases) and do not pull the trigger on a new purchase too fast.

Thanks for the replies, I have a chance to get this stuff at a great discount. The idea of me getting an X1 and F1 at the price of one of those is really enticing.

Even if things are cheap, they prolly get cheaper and buying twice because you did not buy what you need is still expensive, even if the first purchase was cheap.

I have the Z1 and X1MKII + a F1 I normaly use my DDJ SX when I play out but at one club they have a CDJ2000 + DJM 800 setup so I just bring my laptop and X1. I have done a few gigs with only the Z1 and X1 it works perfectly but I did miss the Pitch fader and jog of the SX.

You can pitch bend and adjust the pitch with the X1 but it’s just much easier with a fader then the Sync+loop knob on X1

My friend who has a CDJ2000 + DJM900 NEX sometimes borrows my Z1 and X1 because his Pio setup is way to heavy to carry up many stairs and I really likes this setup and is considering changing to it permanently.
