Membertraktor if you dont want to scratch, vdj pro if you dont want to compromise… vdj will allow full use of your controller & full jog resolution with a small tweek. If you have a legit version you can download much better effects that are great in sound and functionality. Serato intro is a compromise right off the bat atleast until an itch upgrade becomes available if it ever does.

What do you mean “off the bat” for Serato with the Terminal mix 2?

KeymasterI think with the TM2 Serato is not such a compromise as opposed to the TM4 you have 2 decks on the TM2 and this is what DJ Intro does. Also scratching is really really good. You can easily nail the basics with Intro and later down the road in a few month time, we will know if Serato will have an upgrade or if you go VDJ.
I would not recommend Traktor, I really dislike NI for their poor implementation of high res midi and hid.
@ Synthetic: Which tweak do you mean to get full jog resolution? I am currently testing VDJ pro with the TM4 and VDJ really grows on me. Also which VST effects for VDJ Pro do you recommend? (Especially which EQ plugin, since I hate the EQ and it is the only thing that really puts me off) – also I use a Mac with Lion.

Memberunfortunately because you are using a mac the equalizer I use is out of the question as you can’t use vst’s on mac, for this reason I recommend bootcamping windows or waiting till vdj8 is released as the eq will not only be fixed but adjustable to suit the way you like it to sound, at the moment it is absolutely shocking and I honestly don’t know how anyone signed off on it being acceptable and releasing the program with it… /rant
p.s. the eq is “minimal systems instruments – ultimate 3 band” It is absolutely supreme sounding.
You always have full jog resolution in vdj, but there is a small lag when scratching as atomix set their software to work on incredibly slow computers as a default. Im not sure how you do it on mac but on pc you need to locate and edit the system registry, it’s not as hard as it sounds as you just need to type “regedit” in the start menu’s search bar. that brings up the registry and you navigate to hk_current_user –> virtual dj –> then open “default scratch latency” it will be set at 2400, atomix recommend you halve it but mine is set at 860 if I remember correctly, after that scratching is tight.
The way I found out how to edit the registry manually is google, so start there.

Keymasterthanks synthetic! I thought so. I think I heard someone at Musikmesse on the VDJ booth say, that they will overhaul the mac plugin support in VDJ 8, since you seem to have excellent knowledge of VDJ, do you think this may include VST support on the mac?

Memberit’s hard to say really, I was reading the djdecks forum and adion atomix’s new lead developer was unsure how to make vst’s work on mac, that was posted 6 months ago, so maybe he and the team have been figuring it out, but I think atomix will finally bridge the gap between pc and mac in terms of their support, but the best plugins come from the community or vst’s. sbdj now has a mac though and is bringing video plugins up to date, I assume next he will turn his focus towards audio plugins, then hopefully a combination of video and audio at the same time.

Keymasterthanks, I will follow how this develops as I think with Version 8 VDJ will really start to rock away and since I start to hate Traktor with a fiery passion, VDJ may be the way to go for the future. But as I am like 15 years Mac user, booting Windows feels like a sacrilege you know hehe 😉

This isn’t quite true…they just have their own propriety form of midi signal which is extremely tight. One of the reasons their own hardware works so well. As for HID, its coming in the 2.5 update that is released in 7 days. I believe the lack of HID was to do with licensing with Pioneer.

KeymasterI am sorry but I think they limit the mapping (which everyone uses as an excuse to the “oh I am so flexible”) to sell their equipment. Nobody in their right mind would buy an S4 over a VCI 400 if the VCI 400 had the same tight jogs and pitch faders. Which is not Vestax fault, as they do send high res midi and it works extremely well in Serato and VDJ.
Also what is so complicated in programming mappable remix decks in 2.5??? Again just a thing to sell their F1 and S4. The VCI 400, heck even a mixtrack pro could easily be mapped to get the best out of remix decks if that is all you want (not even starting to talk about things like launchpads and midi fighters).
But I am not complaining as Serato + Ableton blows away any flexibility Traktor has anyways and VDJ 8 will also give NI a run for their money (and also works with Ableton).Do not get me wrong, this is a valid marketing choice by NI to sell their gear, it is just not what I prefer in a company that I give my hard earned money to. Not even with the price cut, as latest with V3 I would have to pay again, where as in VDJ I invest double the money to buy it once, but then have free updates for live (and if you count license fees from a controller same goes for Serato if you stick with that controller).
