And are you watching the “how-to” vids about the S8 on the blog as well (think we are at installment 3 currently).

Yeah I have, been looking through loads of videos over the past week on both controllers and although I am pushing towards making the jump to Traktor with the S8 I am liking the SX2 and am learning more about what that can offer.

    Such a hard decision lol

It seriously is. Especially the software. Retraining to another controller isn’t all that hard (although slightly harder switching between jogwheeled and jogwheelless). But you will setting all your cue points, loops and such in the software, and you will be preparing samples (in whatever form) in the software as well.

All effort that is essentially lost when moving to another software platform. There seem to be a few tools that can help, but not sure how well they work and it’s all at your own peril of course. Not sure what I would hate more, doing everything over for a new platform or finding out my tool messed things up here and there and not knowing what cues to trust anymore.

Well, good luck with your choice!

I’m with @Terry_42 Serato is very expressive and accommodates even more creativity with the flip feature. If you’re considering an SX2, it even comes with a flip license and the DVS upgrade is only $99. My mates use Traktor and the application just feels finicky compared to Serato. Plus, no job wheels and pitch faders on the S8 mean a tough time mixing in a song if the drums were played by hand or if the track incorporates any tempo changes.

In Traktor’s defense, the effects available are a lot more expansive than Serato’s current offerings, but Serato seems to be improving its effects package with each update.

I got kinda same decision. I have at home Pioneer DJM900 and pair CDj2000 nexus but i dont want carry those to every club gig where is no those kinda players and these weight with case 40kg! So im looking for controller too to take with me. First Traktor S8 looks very nice and its perfect size and not heavy but it dont have jog wheels and im not so sure about those touch strips. What really interest me with S8 is build in remix decks. I like to do lots stuff to make my night special so those would be very nice and i also like that freeze/slicer mode. 2 Option what i looking for is Numark Ns7 ii what i love with that is those moving platters i just love playing vinyl. But it dont have remix deck system, and is it too big? NS7 ii would be easy answer but those 2 things make me think should i get S8? and also NS7 ii will get screens so that would be good. SX2 interest me little bit too but i think there will be no screens for a while, and im sure pioneer make whole new controller so youwould have to buy new controller and not have like NS7 ii add on screens. Sry if this is little messy im not very good with english but i hope somebody could help me too.

I am still a little confused why discussion seem to be about hardware so much. The S8 and the NS7ii are two totally different machines and the SX is yet another one.

Imho, first you establish your current and desired workflow, with that in place you will make or have made a choice for software, after that you establish a budget and then you go and look at what is around to fit your workflow, your software and your budget. Then you narrow it down to two (perhaps three) and then you make a choice.

Traktor S8 goes well with Traktor. So if your workflow and Traktor software work well together, than it or the S4 or your options. If you like Serato (or VDJ or Cross for that matter, but Serato has Flip which will offset the remix decks feature), you can look at big units (NS7ll is huge and so is the SZ). More realistically I’d say get the SX2. Supports DVS, so if you ever want to hook up two TTs you can play vinyl as well. Don’t be fooled by people saying the non-Native Instruments controllers work well with Traktor. Even if the mappings are there and correct, NI is moving away from supporting third-party controllers and the jogwheel integration with Traktor is just not up to par unless you are using Traktor hardware.

As far as the buttons on the controller, you can get something like the Reloop Neon and have much more control than with most built-in pads.

I have used just little bit traktor, but it really doesnt matter for me what software i will be using. I have been loving vinyls long time thats why im very interesting for NS7 II.Would be easy choise if i could test those units but i cant i live small city and theres only 1 Dj store and they just order stuff, cant test. I think SX2 really inst for me because no add on screens, i dont want stare laptop screen. So its battle S8 Against NS7 II 😀 On S8 really annoy me that you need to pust button to access tempo mode then you need to hold shift and turn knob to adjust full BPM not 0.1 style and cant adjust phase same time with touch strip. Oh ididnt say what genres i play, Progressive house/Electro house/trance/And i like to do Thre3style mixing
