Agreed! My favourite remix sets are the ones that I put together myself.

Yeah I didnt use mine tha tmuch when I got it but then when I staring making my own sets it got alot more fun. I’m the same way I like to add to what I’m playing already and just layer. Brought it out once to dj at my friends new years party, I didnt use it as much as I like, so much going on then having to worry about potentially 8 additional loops playing. Def need some more practive with it. I am still no where being close to using it the way I want to but theres a light at the end of the tunnel! lol

lmao I’m the same way. Just yesteray I was on maschine working on a track and discovered a whole new function to play notes on it. Then I was like maybe I should hold off on buying ableton a bit longer lol. There is so0 much too know but I guess thats part of the fun too

very true! and to be honest I thought It was going to be easy at the begining cause I would like to think I have good/diverse taste in music. Then I starting getting into it more and realized what a commitment it would be. Only a couple of my friends really understand what takes and the rest are clueless lol

But at the end of the day I’m glad I contained my Call of Duty addiction and starting Djing and making music. Much more rewarding than protecting the world against zoombies lmfao

Hip hop is so hard to mix! I’m still wrappin gmy head around it. Its really the only genre in my playists that has bpm ranges all over the map. Not like house/electro at all that have long intros or no vocals at the start. It’s the one gnere I’m scared to mix lol

I made a hiphop mix a while ago but I need to make a new one with everything I’ve learned so far. For alot of it I just slammed in and out of tracks but It really should havea better flow.

Loops are key. Any parts in a hip hop track with no lyrics and a steady beat is a gold mine! lol I’ve recently been getting alot more popular instrumentals so I have some wiggle room when mixing. Also been getting alot of electro,trap remixes of popular hiphop tracks so I have more options. My last thing I do for hiphop (and all my playslits) is I make my sub-playlists really tight so when I mix I can drill down very specific. I got the idea from Dj Endo at Dubspot. Really helped me to show commonality between all the music I had so when I mix in hiphop I can toss in some other random tracks that still make sense. I feel like the organization piece is half the battle. If you havent seen the video I would check it out.

My one thought is using the F1, to layer in loops, breaks etc; to help with transition and make everything more cohesive but again not as fluid as mixing house music. This is why I want to learn how to do some basic scratching so I have more options but theres only so much mixing time after work! lol

lmaoo. I def agree there but sometimes its kind of fun finding songs that go well with it but at the same time its really stressful. Check it out this book if you have the time. I bought it a year ago and it was an amazing read . If you have an ipad theres a ibook out for it too now. Looks at the begining stages of hiphop and house. Where they came from, their influences etc; Might give you some ideas or the very least inspire!
